Forums - PC - StarCraft 2 Worth Buying a New PC?

You're absolutley correct. SC2 has better production values, a more solid engine, better editor, better ladder system, better speed, etc, but as of now, BW is still a better game whereas SC2 has potential that remains unfulfilled. If that potential is fulfilled or not depends on the expansions and patches, and how the competitive play develops.

this now sounds like a certain playstation release if I recall.

anyways, I agree.

But me, I prefer to grow with a game, I hate just stepping into a game that's already had expansions. It's really daunting and intimidating and everyone else has so much experience with the foundation elements that new elements are so simple to get used to.

Anyway, I played so much SC and BW already. I want new stuff, new experience and such. Anyway, I agree with your point.

wow, 7 years old. Amazing.

But really you don't need to spend 1300$ on a laptop to game, and you certainly should never buy from bestbuy.

You can probably get a really nice gaming laptop from acer for 800 or so. Just check all the models, or go on tigerdirect and look for laptops with a dedicated video card. 1300$ is way too much honestly, unless you're talking about australian dollars.

This one is only 949$.

and if you really want to spend about 1300$ look at this next one.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, my old baby who died was purchased in 2002 right before I entered undergrad and died in December 2009 after I finished grad and got a job. I spent above a $1000 over the years buying $200 video cards, upgrading the ram, and upgrading the processor. Not to mention the hard drive gave out on me not a year before it died. Many good memories.

I like the Gateway as I currently have a $550 Gateway N78 laptop I bought last December. I have no complaints about my Gateway.

I've heard gateway quality has gotten a lot better, much like acer, and their prices are really cheap. ANyway, that laptop has like the 30th top mobile graphics card on the market. It's pretty sweet. I'd get it if I had a better job and had money and shit.

It's not diablo 3.But I say yes.

the feeling I get from SC2: WoL is that it is more of a platform than the end goal, used to try new ideas and work on balance while they work on bigger things with the two expansions/episodes even the story seems to be laying the groundwork for bigger things to come. I guess they didn't want to blow their load on part one, not making to many major changes or complicating things two much, part two IMO will be the one that really takes us to new places and moves things foreword. And hopefully part 3 will be the one to bring the epic conclusion to the story and to tighten up and push the multi-player above and beyond.

what I guess I am trying to say   is that this is just part one and now the basics are out of the way we will see some initiative and amazing things in the future, now that the basics are out of the way. Tho I do find it hard to imagine how complex multi-player will be after two more chapters adding half a dozen new units to each faction.

Whether this is a good approach I don't think we will know until part three is out.

as for whether SC2 is worth buying a new computer, if you like RTS but haven't played starcraft chances are you will love this game (unless you love Dawn of War 2 you traitor with your RTTs) but if you played and loved starcraft it's 40/40/20 whether you love hate or just find it OK. If you played starcraft and didn't like it you probably won't like SC2 and if you have no experience with RTS this is probably the best game to get you into the genre but probably not worth buying a PC specially . One thing to remember is that you are buying into a trilogy not just one game, but still just SC2 is probably not worth $1100 or whatever unless there are other games you are interested in like Diablo 3, Civ4, one of the many big or F2P MMOs, some indi games etc

I did some comparisons and ended up purchasing the $949 Gateway Laptop for gaming. My current laptop is my 2nd Gateway, I have never had problems with a Gateway comp, and the $949 Gateway does have room for upgrades, which is a must for any computer I purchase.

I looked at Alienware, Toshiba, and Asus. All had good gaming laptops, but Alienware was wanting $1700 for their name and a 17 inch screen. No thank you, if I wanted an overpriced computer, I would have picked up a Mac.

I haven't read the thread, but SC2 is a must have! It is a well balanced and fun game. They added challenges which are difficult, at least for me. I love the game
