Forums - Microsoft - Alan Wake big disappointment

Well I have just started and I finished episode 2 yesterday and I am not convincedl

It looks pretty nice, but it is a slightly annoying game, Alan himself really annoys me. He is just trying to tell me what to do in his whiny voice and that bothers me. The story is pretty interesting, but I don't love the gameplay. It is a good game, but far from being the best, even this year

Alan Wake is a good game and deserves more sales... it has only ok graphics, below a lot of games (on Xbox 360 too).

I thoroughly enjoyed AW and I had a great time playing it! Excellent story and pretty scary in some parts.

I even got my gf to play the game and she enjoyed it as well. She cleared it faster than I did! :-O

I still need to play through the signal dlc. Looking forward to trying it out.

It's did it's job for me. It's one of the more intense games on the 360, being caught off guard by a Taken can scare the Hell out of you, or being attacked by farm vehicles and barrels can be just as bad. The mood was perfect. The game has some flaws, but I didn't find them game breaking.

As for Selnor, he did pedestal the game, but only because he was majorly excited for it. In his defense, I'm sure there were people who weren't thrilled with HR either, despite my massive hype. But no game is for everyone.

Your avatar arouses me for some reason... weird.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Good to see you back. :)

Another one of these threads?  Not an Alan Wake bashing thread.  I'm fine with that (even though I loved the game and I DO think it has some of the best graphics you can find).  I mean a thread where somebody wants anonymous people on the internet to tell them whether or not he should continue playing a game that he doesn't like.  If you don't enjoy it, don't play it.  If you do enjoy it, play it.  That's it.

I just spent the last three days playing X-Blades for the Xbox 360.  The games critical reception was somewhere between shit and bird shit.  I enjoyed the game and I played it to completion.  I didn't need anybody to re-affirm that what I was doing wasn't a waste of time.  The game was fun to me.  At the same time, a critically acclaimed game like Bio Shock was unable to hold my attention despite my being so hyped for it that I bought it on day one.  In the end, it comes down to you, your time, and how you choose to spend it.

Now I'm going to play Kirby Superstar for the Nintendo DS and try to kill Kirby in the most painful ways imaginable.

The game should have remained dark the whole time as it was obvious that they spent a ton of development time on that.

If the game had come out before Uncharted 2, I think people would have been blown away by certain parts (like being inside of a cabin as it gets destroyed by a bulldozer or the part on top of that dam).  Since U2 (and even Gears of War 2) did similar things, the impact of Alan Wake was diminished.  Too bad.  From what I understand, AW was ready for release way before its suicide launch against Red Dead Redemption.

convince me why i should play nightmare difficulty

Achievements and e-peen, duh.

Playing on Nightmare isn't going to make you like the game more, on my brief replay I only noticed more flaws than I did on my first play through.

@Selnor: Please don't overrate the game so much, I can understand if you loved it and that's fine, but when someone overlooks all it's flaws and then tries and defend the game it only makes the game worse in my eyes because it cannot defend itself based on its own merits. That other guy was wrong for calling you out, just don't get baited so easily.

So I suppose you know better than selnor how he should feel? Just because you were bothered by the game's flaws doesn't mean everyone else should be.
