Dance Central seems to be a lead software for Kinect's launch...maybe it might even shock us and sell out...now that would be something.  As I've said before, I'm getting 3 Kinect bundles on launch, and 3 copies of Dance Central, The Yoga game for my wife, and probably something else ofr myself.  That video chat is probably the driving reason for my decision to get three bundles to connect with my family which will be seriously geographically dispersed.

360 fans are hardcore.  360 fans have one of each model released and will buy multiple kinects. That's why ps3 is losing by so much. lol Seriously everyone I know that has a 360 has more than one working 360. It's really baffling.

Actually this is pretty much how a lot of my friends are too with 360's (and Halo 3)  Which makes the tie ratio for the 360 even more ridiculous then it is now.

And (nearly) everyone I know who doesn't have a 360 bitches and whines about this or that, that the 360 does without ever even playing.  Sheeesh.....

Honestly folks, we don't know exactly what the Kinect will and wont do yet.  Even with the demos that are out these are still very early models of the device.  When everything is finalized thats when we know what it will do.  I really get a kick out of a lot of people here.  They come in with all of these details, which mean little to nothing to most "gamers".  They explain why this or that is useless or why its overdone and to expensive yadda yadda.  And they haven't even tried it.

I have tried it, it was fun.  It isn't perfect nor will it ever be, no console ever has been.  The main concern most gamers have shouldn't be whats inside the magic box, but if its fun and that it does pretty much what its advertised to do.  From everything that I saw at the Canton OH demo it does that.  Sure it has a very tiny amount of lag in one of the  games I tried.  But if you ask me if it bothered me at all when I was playing the game or if it took me out of the moment, I will honestly say no.  It didn't bother me in the slightest and both my cousin and I had a blast while using it.  Now if only they will make a game that has Karaoke and dancing combined.  That would sell 5 million copies out the box if it had a great list of songs.

Did you mean to quote me? I'm not sure why you did because I don't see a response to me or what I said. Just curious.

And don't think I'm insulting you at all.

I wasn't trying to take a jab at you or anything like that.  But after re-reading it I see it could have been taken that way, my bad.  My point wasn't really pointed at you but to a lot of people who continuously bash, troll, stealth troll all things 360 (just because) most not even owning a 360.  It was supposed to be just a reply and somehow I did a quote.

But after re-reading your post, I still don't believe most "hardcore 360" users own 2 systems or more.  But I will admit a lot do including myself.  But one is for me and the other is for the wife.

well yeah, 360 gamers are the most hardcore. There's no doubting that. The biggest libraries I see are from 360 owners.

Do you game in seperate rooms? Or on a lan? Or do you restrict her gaming to her own system? I'm so confused!

I wish my gf was that into gaming...

What gets me is the hardcore label...soo...why are music games so big?  THAT'S hardcore?!?!....GH and Rockband...as Stepto said on Major Nelson's podcast, I think we're going to see quite a few of these purported "hardcore" gamers getting Kinect.  I know M$ is going to rob me for over $500 this season, when it all adds up, but that $99 for 4 annual memberships is a no-brainer.  I'm kinda hoping that there are special holiday/launch deals for Kinect, since it's going to be coming out so close to Black Friday.

I don't think the depth sensor is what makes kinect stand out. It is the software behind it. Kinect itself isn't all that much a piece of new technology (at least its components two cameras and 4 mics) but it is the first time that I know of that facial recognition, voice recognition, and body/movement recognition will be found in a single device. I think kinect can be used to greatly enhance controller based games with voice recognition :commanding teammates, throwing a grenade in fps maybe melee too, racing looks fun to me ( I like the wii wheel too), interaction with on screen character (kinectimals), Dart games parhaps, horse shoes maybe, these are few ideas that have been bouncing around my head. I am sure as developers get more use with it they will get better ideas with it.

If it really was the software that made Kinect stand out, wouldn't that be quite a problem for Microsoft. Software can easily be ported to other systems. Facial recognition, voice recognition, biometrical identification and so on - that could be done with a 5$ webcam or a Playstation Eye just as well. The fact that the technology and the algorithms for these things have been available for decades did not lead to them being massively used in consumer devices. What really sets Kinect apart from for example a Playstation Eye is the depth sensor, that and the new possibilities the depth sensor offers is what Microsofts competitors cannot easily introduce themselves.

And when it comes to traditional controller based games being improved with Kinect: That's exactly where I saw Kinect's main advantage for common gamers. But first of all I once again don't see how such games would really make intelligent use of the depth sensor which is responsible for 90% of Kinect's hardware price. And second, for some reasons there are no traditional controller based games even announced yet. I can only assume that it didn't prove to be that useful really. Fable 3 has just lost its Kinect support, and I think I remember some source saying something like that there would be not traditional games with Kinect support for at least one or two years...

Oh, and racing games will suck with Kinect, trust me. Joy Ride already prove to be a failure, and people will try Kinect mode in Forza for like one race and then never use it again.

If by the people bashing Kinect even though they don't even own a 360 you mean me, I have to disappoint you. I do own a 360, I even bought it more than a year earlier than my PS3.

But it's no secret that I definitely prefer my PS3 and that I'm more and more rather disappointed with my 360. I haven't used it in ages. I'm not saying the 360 is a bad console, it really depends on what kind of games you like. If you love Shooters then the 360 is just perfect. But those kinds of games just don't interest me anymore.

In the beginning I was even really forward to Kinect because I believed this would lead to much more games being released that I would be interested in. But meanwhile I'm quite disappointed, I consider PS move a lot more interesting.

By the way, I had exactly the same impression about 360 owners having 2 consoles. My experience is anything but representative, but most 360 owners I know or read about have indeed at least two 360s. And there's a reason for it: Almost all 360 owners I know or have contact with use their 360s to play pirated games. Every November their current 360 gets banned and they buy a new one... I think it's quite funny, some of them have already got 5 or 6 360s at home, in the end they probably didn't save that much money really :)

Well, since you own a 360 its obviously not meant for you.  Not only was I pointing my finger towards non 360 owning crowd but also to those who have been bashing the Kinect without even playing it.  The thing is fun.  Thats all that matters to me.  Not whats in it or what other people say about it.

The only thing that I see being the Kinects downfall will be exactly what the Wii's was to some degree.  And that will be people simply getting tired of having to stand for a a lot of games.  I don't think that will be a turn off in the least, I just think people will not game for long periods of times (in a row).   Even if the Kinect can read people while sitting down,  there are some games simply designed for standing.   Which I think is a good thing anyways.

If i'm not mistaken, they can copy right their algorithims and code. Meaning although other companies could use it, they would have to license it from Microsoft. From what I read kinect is a culmination of their facial recognition software, along with their voice recognition, and I believe they had to do the research for movement input. And voice recognition software is in almost every cell phone i use, not to mention every service call I make. There really hasn't been a use for facial recognition software outside of security concerns I believe. Microsoft said it would take time for more games to come out, I do not see a problem with that, that is why it is a software problem. A lot of developers are going to have to figure just how they want to use kinect to spice games, and hopefullyt Microsoft will take the lead and show third parties the way. I'll trust myself as to what games I will enjoy when I get a hands on with kinect. I am not expecting something that kinect is not going to be, I am expecting to have fun with it, which every video I have seen, even the bad ones, the people using seem to be having a blast.

The only people I saw that played it who were not having a blast were they young ones sad they had to leave ( a few cases throwing tantrums).  I will admit I was a bit tired waiting in line, but but when I left I felt like it was worth the wait.  I will say that the only thing that would have made the experience better would have been for girls in bikinis serving me a nice cold Bud Light.  And to have a had an hour or so alone with the Kinect.  Prefurably with those bikini girls (Just dont tell the wife). :D
