Forums - General - Buying HDTV, Need Help.

Okay, well recently I decided that I'm sick of my pitiful 20" SD Emerson in my room and that I'm ready to upgrade.

I'm looking for something in the 37" to 40" range, 1080p, 120Hz and for $750 or under.

Right now this HDTV has my attention:

I can nab it for $750 at Sam's Club.

Well I was wondering if the VGChartz community could possibly point me in the direction of a better HDTV for my money, any help would be much appreciated.

Also, if you know of any good Surround Sound Home Theatre Systems for $250 or under, that would also help a bunch as I plan on buying one for whatever my HDTV may be shortly!

Okay I just accidently stumbled across this sweet little deal on Amazon a second ago, what do you all think, is there anything better?

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0039RSYQS/ref=nosim/lhd-20

It's a new LG Line and it seems like a steal for $700.

all HD tvs are good actually from my experience, Samsung and LG has the best user reviews, but getting any of them is a good choice

also the sooner your on HD the better your vision will be, SD HD consoles = AW MY EYE HURT!

What do you think of the Amazon deal I posted?

Also I know what you mean, I'm only 17, 18 in september and going into my Freshman year of college but I'll be commuting to save on costs :P And I've been using this SD TV forever, however I have experienced the awesomeness of HDTV because my parents have a 46" Sony XBR2 in the living room.

Bump... Anyone? lol

LGs are really good quality for the cash, I cannot comment on the pricing of that amazon deal since I'm not familiar with usual US prices.

Well so far this is hands down the cheapest I've found this TV online.

What do you plan on using it for mostly?  TV watching or gaming?  Compare the contrast ratios and the refresh times of the TV's

To be quite honest, I was too lazy to open up any links :P  I'd go with the one that has the better response time, if they are both the same I'd go for the one with a better contrast.

Though, all depends on what you will be using the TV for.  For example, will you hook your PC up to the monitor as well?  If so I'd want a VGA input on the TV

I just looked at the links - I'd go with the LG

A)Bigger
B)4 HDMI ports
C)Better contrast ratio
D)Better response time
E)More inputs

The Samsung also does not list any component inputs.. that scares me, the LG has as many HDMI as the Samsung, yet has 2 component and 2 composite inputs

Overall, LG hands down
