Forums - Sales Discussion - The great sales divide!

I really wonder how all you people can answer so calm to this post, because it made me angry when I read it.

kwaad, you're an intelligent person and you can hide your trolling behind statements which seems to be unbiased. when i started to write in this forum, i did not understand why the people did not like you because i thought you where really trying to discuss. this thread made me finally change my mind.

all you really say in this post is that the games on sony consoles are to difficult and to complex for us wii-gamers and that we don't like the ps3 because of that. so in fact, you are saying that the people who like their wii, and especially the people in this forum, are just worse gamers than you are. this is what you really want to say in this thread, and nothing else.

Do you have any justification for your "insite" or is this thread just flamebait?

The fact is the best selling game for the Wii is The Legend of Zelda which falls into your category of epic games which you claim Wii gamers do not want ...

Man, I'm starting to wish the PS3 supporters would join a little club, where they can meet in their parents basement and talk about how great their PS3 is and how the rest of us are losers for choosing the Wii, so that they can just stop the meaningless posts ...

I do see what you mean.

I do also get angry at his "Ps3 players are holier than thou" attitude in this post.

Yeah, I finally have a sig.

Oh man. I completely agree with you but "worser"...ha ha ha that almost proves his point.

Here's what I like in games:

Games with a story or definite goals, something I can beat 100% and know I've done everything.  I don't like completely open-ended things or games that are mostly online multiplayer battles.  RPG's, action/adventure, campaign mode in TBS/RTS, platformers with lots of collectibles, etc.  Sometimes I can get into season mode of sports games.

As far as simplicity vs. complexity, I might agree that I prefer a game that I can actually start playing after an hour or two and feel like I'm actually progressing.  I never understood the appeal of memorizing 500-button combos for Virtua Fighter or whatever those fighters do.  But to name something like Final Fantasy as complex just destroys the point, they're deep and long but they're hardly difficult.  If you want something hard play some old NES games, most of those are insane.

Hey, no biggie. I usually don't mention grammar/spelling mistakes, but in context this one was funny.

yes i understand what you mean. but to really prove his point i should have stopped after half of my statement because in his opinion, wii-gamers are not able to concentrate for longer than five minutes on the same thing =)

Ok. I was thinking about this.

How many of you people would be interested in a game that...

You can fly a space fighter ship. (simulator)
You can hire other pilots to do stuff for you. (command)
You can build unlimited number of stations. (empire)
You can hire a unlimited number of pilots to fly your ships to defend your empire. (war)
What do you think the learning curve should be on this game?
You should know how to do everything in a few minutes? 5? 15? 30? I have over 100 hours of gameplay in X2, I have over 50hours of gameplay in X3. There are so many more things I am learning I can do every day.

You say zelda is one of those massive open ended games? No, it felt quite linear to me. It has some stuff to do on the sides.

Metriod prime is graphically massive, but quite small when it comes to gameplay, so is zelda.

A game like Oblivion could never be done on a Wii. Morrowind would be the best the Wii could do. Now you come across another major problem. The Wii has some controller issues when it comes to complexity. 1 joystick, and 8 buttons. (easilly accessed)

The PS3 has 14buttons and 2 joysticks. (I am counting the digital stick as 4 buttons on each controller)

When I am playing X3 I use my PS3 controller. (The joysticks have great sensitivity)  However There are not enough buttons on the controller.

Zoom, Boost, Accelerate, decellerate, shoot, change missle, shoot missle, pitch, yaw, roll, target nearest, target enemy, target friendly, menu, weapon ararry.

That are the most used controls. There are not enough buttons on the PS3 controller to do that. The Wiimote would have 8 buttons, and the analog stick. 2 for acceleration/deceleration. 1 for shoot, 1 for target nearest enemy, 1 for boost, 2 for roll. One for missles.

I still cant target friendlys, open the menu, change missles, among MANY other things I couldnt do, that I could on the PS3 controller.

ok. But what about an RTS games like Civ or Spore. These games are complex and expansive with complete open ended play.

The Wii-mote is by far more suited to this type of game than that of the ps3 or 360.

My point still stands. The games you like to play have only been on the ps# due to a much higher installed base. As it stands Wii is going to have that base and ps3 will not. Therefore as history has proved those games will gravitate to the Wii and where a button is missing it will be replaced by motion. Especially as developers get better acquianted with the Wii capabilities and can 'perfect' how to use the motion controls.

Not to mention, any 'complex' game that you mention is usually better on the PC anyways.
