When it was release the warranty was 1 year, like all electronic device. Its only after legal sanction that Microsoft extended their warranty. Before that, it was possible to purchase an extended warranty from either the manufacturer or retailer. Surely, he could have sue them after the first one had broken, but he thought it was better to save the time and energy and simply purchase a new one. Plus, opening a case about legal guarantee (in Canada) cost 100$ and can takes up to 2 years before being refunded. Legal guarantee is a law that says: what you purchase should have a reasonable life in relation to what it is and the price. Im not even sure all countries have that.

This source says otherwise: http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/12482/Microsoft-Extends-Xbox-360-Warranty-to-One-Year/

6 months later they changed it to 3 years: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6173633.html

The question is when he bought his 360s. Still pretty sure that at least one of these purchases was unecessary.

His argument all seems very well engineered doesn't it? Heck even if you're out of warrenty, often enough MS are kind enough to repair for free (guess it depends on their funds and circumstances)

Trust me he tried, it was before they aknowledge the problems. They didnt wanted to repair nor exchange for free, he talks with different agents, I remember very well because he was very mad at job because of his talk with them. They were literraly telling him it was his fault for leaving the console on too long. And that it was out of the 1 year warranty so they didnt have any obligation. Im sure they give better service now.

I've purchased two 360s. I still have both of them. I had to get the first one fixed, but it's still running good. I've played a lot of games on both of them. For those of you that asked how to transfer the data from your old 360 to the new one, you need a data transfer cable. They used to be free when you purchased a new 360, but they charge for it now. I got pretty mad at them for it and called them to complain, and they gave it to me for free. I think it was $12 or so. It wasn't the money, but the principle. Make me pay $12 when I just spent $400 on a new elite! Fuck you! So, they gave it to me for free. Good luck to you. As far as the new 360 slim, it looks great. I wish I had one. I just can't justify the purchase. My elite is still running good. Oh yeah, for those of you that didn't know. Once you transfer all of your old info to the new 360, the only way you can get to your old purchases, downloaded games or map packs, is to be connected to xbox live. This doesn't seem like it would matter that much, but my son was wanting to play on some of the maps that I downloaded previously on my old xbox and couldn't. The only way he could do it was to play on my profile. Kind of bullshit, but I found that out one day when I was bored and read the "exclusions" or whatever bs microsoft calls it on downloadable game content. Figured someone would want to know.

I really wonder how many people have purchased "2nd 360" (slim or not) just because the first one has broken

whatever, a sale is sale ...

I guess a lot of people... I have a friends who have purchase 4 since the release. Myself its the second one. I played like 12 games on Xbox since released and its already broken lol. Anyway, this thread wasnt meant to talk about that. It was a heads up to the new system. Im very impressed by it!

And this is why I fail in understanding consumer practices. I can accept rebuying one console because it failed and unfortunately you got a bad model but come on, 4 purchases and still be confident with the maker...

Don't even know how this is possible.

at least 3 of them were still under warranty

2 in the first 3 years, no warranty whatsoever. The 3rd one was purchase with 3 years warranty (he had to pay for the warranty by that time) and had to be exchange also, I think 1 time (but I didnt count this since it wasnt a new purchase). The 4th one is a slim he just bought. So if you dont count the slim it makes 3. I didnt precise because I wasnt trying to prove anything.

That's just...... a really sad story

slim is very nice. looks great but i'm curious about the 4gb version. It's matte, but i still havent seen 1 in real life

Imagine the numbers the Wii would have if it had a similar 'rrod' (or whatever) problem.

Anyway anyway, since both my ps3 and 360 broke i vowed never to bother again...but...i don't know how much i can take anymore. So many great games..

Yea I still want one, but might get the Halo: Reach edition.  But I guess I need to decide fast haha before they stop taking reserves.
