Chuckles... I think you will find that the Kinect version will be what the Wii version should of been but could never be.

Even if that's true will someone like my wife even care especially when she paid  only $30 for the  Wii version compared to $150 for Kinect?

I think so after all the Wii fit with a Balance board proved very successful and it did not come cheap. Your missus may be over the moon with her $30 version but she would be even more impressed with the Kinect version, your call ;)

Thats an assumption since kinect isn't even out yet so we don't even know if will work as well in your living room as it does on stage and it doesn't even do that well on stage, not to mention the whole years later and costs more, theres really no reason for the causual to buy kinect when the wii is out since price is more of a factor then technical capabilities with causals, and there is absolutely no reason for anyone besides a causal to buy it

So if you make an assumption based on my assumption does that cancel them out and then make mine fact?

what assumptions did I make?

You seem to me to be making the assumption it will not work in living rooms yet Microsoft have been taking this puppy around the US displaying in living room type situations for some time now. You are also making the assumption that no casuals will have a reason for procuring a Kinect device based on your reasoning. Whereas I am pretty sure casuals will have many reasons for waiting to buy it.

Where did I say it won't work in living rooms, I said we don't know, learn to read, and I never said casuals won't want to buy it, I said they won't buy it because it's expensive and they already have a wii, and if they don't have a wii they probably aren't interested at all

As it happens I can read and that includes between the lines.

Could be because of the incredible amount of flashing cameras.

Hahahah, this will be "fun" on my little apartment!

By accounts you need only about 6 feet to play optimal Kinect which as the standard US prison cell is 6 x 8 should mean even the prison population of the US will not be excluded.

How big is that prison cell after you factor in the prison bed and the entertainment center for the TV and the XBox360?

Just because a room is 6 feet doesn't mean you have 6 feet to work with, especially in a living room with furniture.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Got a retro room? Post it here!

As most prison cells are pretty sparse on furniture I suspect this will be a bit of a non issue. The point being that the issue of space is being exagerated. Also 6 feet would be optimal.

Any idea on the minimum amount of space required? Seriously my living room only has like 2 feet between my couch and TV. Amount of space for us right now really sucks.

Best I can say is the optimal although I have seen people playing closer. I think the key thing here is going to be the positioning of the sensor itself. I expect that most people will be about 5 feet away from the TV.

2 feet reminds me of my day in barracks when I would of had bed floor space Telly. In that situation I suspect if I really wanted to get into Kinect I would of had to rearrange my room slightly which lets be honest is not always going to be doeable. This was my prison cell and I know I could of configured it to be able to play Kinect. That said when you have things like couches and bracketed TV sets ect this is not always going to be practical.

Space is the main thing keeping me away. Me and my girlfriend both share an interest in Dance Central. We are quite the competetive DDR players.
