Regarding IGN, Malstrom and other IGN detractors are spot on, in my opinion, of IGN being just an advertising website with a few articles here and there aimed at the 12 to 20 year old crowd.
Regarding Kinect, Microsoft ain't making it for us who post in VGChartz and other video game forums. We are the bleeding edge gamers and there ain't enough of us to make Kinect a profitable venture. We are the minority in the truest sense of the word.
The market for Kinect are those who don't play video games, are much more up to date on the voting for American Idol than the recent polls for their US Representative and US Senator, don't know by name who a quarter of their city council members are, wouldn't know who the last 10 US Presidents were, and who pick up People magazine over Time while waiting at the dentist office.
Microsoft is glitzing and glamming it up because they are betting on the overwhelming Kinect buyers to be utterly ignorant of video games in general beyond knowing that Mario is affiliated with Nintendo whom their son or niece played when they were toddlers.
