Not much more at the moment, but stores are not adverse to it (and some are planning promotion) because Sony is pretty dominant over here (especially compared to Xbox)

They could say Kinect only had ten pre-orders and was going to fail miserably and bankrupt Microsoft. This still wouldn't be a reliable source of information. Or to put it another way, just because a "reliable source" posts it, doesn't make it true. If you trusted somebody, and they told you to jump off a cliff because there was a trampoline and chocolate at the bottom, would you? |
change the chocolate for a Xbox360 and Kinect and he would do it xD /jk jk jk :P

If Microsoft can advertise Kinect as the next 360, as new tech (which they have been), the wannabee tech junkies will buy them ASAP. |
IMVHO MS tries to give this feeling very often when it release something new, even if it's a simple upgrade or add-on. With WinXP it did wonders, despite it being essentially an update to Win2000.
Did anyone see any hard numbers in this story? I am not saying that it is not going to sell well early, but I don't see anyone but the poster mentioning half a million.
The only quote that mentioned numbers were that one chain encouraged its stores to secure 10 orders per day. Is that not telling the selling staff to reach a target each day (like Gamestop does)? The story comments make the same point.
Quality and software will ultimately dictate Kinect's fate. There will always be early adopters. Right now, anyone who thinks they might be interested in probably pre-ordering to make sure they can get one in case there are shortages (which undoubtedly there will be until at least February -- based upon the X360 launch). The real question is whether anyone will want to buy Kinect next May.

Suprising, if its true. Didn't Guitar Hero 5 outsell the Beatles Rockband 3 to 1. Yeah, that's right. We'll see what the real numbers are when Kinect ships. I'm a 360 advocate, and I'm not sold on Kinect. To be honest, the only game I thought was cool was Kinectimals. My 3 year old loved the trailer. Enough said. Numbers are always puffed up to make the launch seem even bigger. Microsoft is pushing this hard, so 2 million units shipped by the end of the year isn't unthinkable. I can't wait to see how many commercials there will be right before it ships. We'll see if it pays off for Micro$oft.
they expect 500k preorders for kinect in UK alone? that seems pretty unlikely to me, but we will see come november
Wow I knew the masses were stupid but this stupid, half a million pre-orders for tech that isn't even new and almost certainly won't work right, thats just pathetic, hopefully they catch on after it's released, for humanities sake I hope the source is BS
EDIT: Just read the link, they expect to get 500k preorders by launch meaning they'll maybe get a third of that these predictions are always way too high
If that number is already that high then I think Microsoft will over beat there expectations of having atleast 2-3 million sold by 2011. if it continues to rise, I can see 4 million easy. The only thing that will stop this would be short supply.

The number isn't already that high, they EXPECT to have that many by LAUNCH which means they won't
I could expect that there would be 5,000,000 pre-orders for the 3DS but that doesn't mean there will be 5,000,000 pre-orders for the 3DS.
Personally, I would be surprised if Microsoft allowed more than 500,000 pre-orders to be issued for Kinect world wide being that they (probably) won't want people who pre-ordered to be waiting weeks/months to receive their hardware.
