They have been done for sometime now. I do not understand why they just dont fold.

Yeah, the writing has been on the wall.  Streaming, netflix and redbox were a perfect storm of destruction for them assaulting all of their vantage points at once.

Whats blockbuster? Do they rent games or movies? And how do they do it, u go into a video store or are they through mail or are they like vending machines?

Video and games rental store. Works on a business model that was good in the 90's, but now it just can't compete and it's been rather stubborn to change.

It's a shame because blockbusters used to be a good store.

It was funny when they tried their netflix like package with their main advantage being you could drop stuff off at the store and pick stuff up same day if you wanted.

Problem was, they charged WAAAY more.   It ain't worth that much to get an extra movie a week maybe, cause I probably don't have the time to watch it anyway.

thats what they get for charging 5$ per movie rental -_-

I'm part of that 10% lol I rented FF12 and never brought it back.

off topic wtf lol

On topic: they have been doomed for the last few years, I personally probably haven't rented anything from them in 5 years at least.

I do miss the free popcorn though :(

Unicorns ARE real - They are just fat, grey and called Rhinos

Movie Gallery shut down in my home town earlier this year.  Two other "mom and pop" video stores shut down in the last couple of years in my home town, too.  On Sunday, I went to a new pizza place that opened up and I noticed that Showtime was open again (now it was called Hunk's Video Rentals).  I went inside to take a look around.  Inside was the most pitiful collection of movies I'd ever seen.  The older lady behind the counter (probably in her 40's) and I started talking --since I was the only customer--and she was talking about how our town needed a place to rent movies, how she was ordering more movies, and how I should tell my friends that they were in business.

I didn't have the heart to tell her that she was doomed.  I figure when I go back, she will have hanged herself.

Digital distribution and online services are the future. Physical copies of DVDs and media discs will become a thing of the past. Video stores are ancient history and their business model is no longer viable in the modern world.
