@ Blackhawk: lol. I've been lurking here for a while, so I know who the fanboys are. We've got leo-j for the PS3 and Soriku for Wii, though I have noticed that Soriku is much more 'neutral' towards other consoles than aggresively against them lol.

@ Chrono: It's true that both other Sony consoles had slow starts, but there are a few key differences here:
-none of them were $599 to begin with
-Sony pretty much had no competition during either of their launches (competition came a year of two later)
-The general image of Sony as a company wasn't down the craphole with the PS1 or PS2

Dreamcast was awesome! Too bad mine got stolen once I finaly bought my first game for it :( . (I'd rented/played demos before)

good first post! I disagree on one part. The people that the PS3 appeal to.

Madden 08 has sold 500k, Everybody's Golf is close to 400k, need for speed carbon sold 600k, etc.

They definitely have more than just the hardcore gamers.

I mostly agree with your post, but I would say that the PS3 lost the casual gamers to MS, not to Nintendo. This is a reflection of changing times, as most casual early-20-yo's were in their early teens when the Xbox 1 hitted the market.

The main market for the PS3 would be the hardcore-Sony fans. Those who have FF VII in a shrine because it was their first RPG. Those that hate Nintendo because it's Nintendo and etc.

 Well respectively they weren't much cheaper sadly, they did have competition with the N64, then the Dreamcast and Sony's immage is doing fine, the PS3 is on par with the 360's first year, the wii is just doing great :D

There on par with Xbox's first year because of Japan, and Xbox had a lousy first year.

 Ahhh I see PS3's sales are doing excelently in America ^_^; (sarcasm) of course that's counting Japan, should we deduct the 360's sales in America?
