The main problem is Microsoft is forcing Rare to be the counter-Nintendo, and not really letting them create. This Kinect stuff is rather sad-looking.

There were still glimmers of the creative Rare this generation, mostly from Viva Pinata, but that's about it.

No, the main problem is everyone who made Rare what it was on the late 90's left the company after the buyout.

w00t. I was hoping someone would quote me soon so i could see what the new quote alert looked like.

Thanks.

I still just see green, what's supposed to be differnet?

Oh Rare... How I miss the good old Nintendo 64 Games you guys used to make... But that's all gone now...

For shame Rare!

For shame Rare!

10 more years from now we will still be saying man I really miss the RARE of 20 years ago.

Wow Rare, god forbid you still have a small amount of fans out there that love you and even want to make a documentary about you free of charge! Guess if I were Rare, I'd be embarrased to have my recent history chronicled as well..

Such a shame. Rare back in the day was my favorite developer after Nintendo, now they have become nothing more than mediocre souless Microsoft slaves incapable of producing decent content.

The way I see it is that Rare suffered a 'brain drain' in the years preceding and when they transfered to Microsoft.  Pretty much the entire team that made Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Blast Corps went their own way and formed Free Radical.  Nintendo, of course, syphoned off a lot of Rare's talented individuals into their 1st and 2nd parties such as Rare and Silicon Knights.

IMO, the last game made by Rare that wasn't to me disappointing was Star Fox Adventures (and that was probably because at the time I hadn't played any other starfox games)

Viva Pinata is a more than "decent" franchise.

If they had to pay what EA paid for BioWare, no they shouldn't have. I love BioWare, I really do, but they aren't worth nearly the amount of money EA paid for them.

Putting Rare's and Bioware's track record side-by-side, Bioware is worth every penny.

From Rare's "Grabbed by the Ghoulies" in 2003, Rare made 2 great games in the 2000s (Perfect Dark Zero and Viva Pinata), while remaking a bunch of ports for Nintendo's handhelds among other bad games.

Bioware from Baldur's Gate 2 in 2000, Neverwinter Nights in 2002, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic in 2003, the Mass Effect series, the Dragon Age series, and even Jade Empire are all solid games from a game developer worthy of a contract rivaling Blizzard's deal with Activison and it's parent company, Vivendi.

Heck, Blizzard has StarCraft, Diablo, and Warcraft, which are classic series. Bioware has Baldur's Gate, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. From this perspective, one could make the argument that Bioware right now is as good if not better than Blizzard was when StarCraft was first released in 1998.
