Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's customer support letter

Hi everyone!

I dropped an email the other day to Nintendo's customer support regarding the support of HD on the virtual console.

It was an extremely polite email in my opinion; yet I didn't get the desire answer.

My email:

Hi,
First of all, congratulations on your success, I've been a Nintendo fan since the NES era and I'm still supporting your products as a proud Wii and DS owner.

One of the features that I enjoy the most out of the Wii is the Virtual Console, I think it is an incredible opportunity to be able to enjoy again so many good games from my childhood.

Right now, I'm plugging my Wii to an Standard definition wide screen TV, and the results are fantastic but, I'm planning on purchasing an HDTV in one year probably, as soon as the prices are at an affordable level.

I noticed that some of the Virtual Console games are not compatible with that kind of definition and do not work, like Neo-Geo games which I enjoy a lot.

Are there any plans on releasing an update for those titles to be able to be played on high definition?

Thanks for your time.

Kind Regards

Hi,

Thanks for writing!  As far as we know, there are no widespread issues regarding the incompatibility with Virtual Console games and HDTV.  If you happen to experience any issues when you purchase an HDTV, let us know, and we will be happy to assist you.

Sincerely,

Nintendo of America Inc.

Maybe, if we all send them emails listing all the games that don't work on an HD screen they will actually do an update because, games not working on an HDTV is a widespread issue in my opinion.

Are there any HD problems? This is the first time I remember hearing about this.

If your Wii is connected with component to an HD monitor and set to 480i, some VC games will not work.

Art of fighting for example.

Perhaps you should have been more specific in your email.

 oh really?

Well maybe it was the monitor that I was using (samsung)

Which NeoGeo games do you have that work?

I've got Ninja Gaiden and Super Mario Bros Lost levels which both work. Both of them have the icon of compatible with HD.

My intention was to find out if Nintendo was thinking in releasing an update version of the games so all of them are compatible with HD.

Perhaps I'm not direct enough on my email, I didn't want to sound really picky.

Anyway, the point is that maybe if we all write to Nintendo they will update old VC games so they're compatible with the video mode mentioned.

Define not work please.
Does the Wii just pause and you don't see anything or is there texture warping or just a bunch of jaggies like one would get if they were to connect an orriginal neo-geo to a HDTV?

Ive not had any problems with my VC games on my HD tv. Im sure that the HD problems only happened on one or two HD tvs, not all of them, so i woudlnt be too concerned about it.#

All the VC games are compatible with HDTV's, its just that some HDTVs have had problems running some of the games. There have been very few cases where they havent worked in the past.

^ Agree

There are PAL borders and frame-rate issues; do you mean that this will be more noticeable on your HDTV?

If not, then I believe their answer was justified. You asked if there would be fixes for HDTVs, and they said they know of no issues. Please link to a reliable source if you know differently.

Ubuntu. Linux for human beings.

If you are interested in trying Ubuntu or Linux in general, PM me and I will answer your questions and help you install it if you wish.

Nevermind then; the exact problem is that Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury and World Heroes were not working on the Samsung HD that I used to see how my Wii looked through component, while some NES games did work.

'Work' meaning nothing is displayed on the screen, just black and you're forced to reboot the console.

Maybe it was just that Samsung monitor.

I'm glad about that then, because I wanted to get an HD screen but did not want to lose the possibility of playing all VC games.

Super Mario Galaxy looks awesome through component btw
