Forums - Sales - 360 and PS3 since PS3 launch.... soooo close!

That shows that there is really no console this gen that can be considered a "fail in sales" (quality is subjective anyway).

I clearly expect the 360 to get in second place this holiday and PS3 to get in second place next holiday, so we'll see a similar situation in 2 years, I think.

2012 - Top 3 [so far]

                                                                             #1                                       #2                                      #3

That not 100% true

you should've started after the global release date of ps3

it's not fair to count 4 months for the Xbox while the ps3 wasn't even exist in Europe/others

start from 25 March 2007 ( the first week after Europe release date )

Console PS3 X360
Total
33,400,877
32,074,075

that's 1,326,802 m difference

but still , HD ftw :D

Double post

I've got a better idea .. let's count them separately

Starts 12 Nov 2006 ( Japan ):

Console PS3 X360
Japan
5,266,096
1,168,201

Starts 19 Nov 2006 ( Americas ):

Console PS3 X360
America
14,192,029
20,433,120

Starts 18 Mar 2007 ( Total others ):

Console PS3 X360
Total Others
16,302,390
13,032,589

So:

PS3 = 35,760,515 M

360 = 34,633,910 M

Difference = 1,126,205 M

Both systems will sell over 65 million ltd sales each.

Just  note or two

1. Vgc numbers for 360 matches MS shipped numbers about 41.5

2. Vgc doesnt matches ps3 numbers, right now about 36 mills. but sony announced in march of 2010 35.7 millions sold/shipped whatever. PS3 should be now at 37.5 millions, imo.

yet it doesnt count BECAUSE how is it fair that ps3 get their release numbers and 360 doesnt, i think its fair as it is. Makes sense, then ps3 gets to keep their release numbers and everybody is happy

yeah but first year sales for every console is less than second year sales so how is it fair to compare ps3 first year sales to 360 second year sales.  maybe we should align launches.

...or just give up on being "fair" and reconise the gist of kowenicki's points...despite the constant back and forth the 360 and ps3 have been quite on par with each other.  but what makes me even more happy is to see the wii continue to stall year after year.

That is awesome.

It does make you wonder what would happen if they came out at the same time.  Just think if neither of the consoles went through their terrible periods (RROD for the 360 and a majorly TERRIBLE ad campaign/599 for the PS3) how different those numbers could be.

All in all, well done HD systems, well done.

i completely agree with kowenicki's numbers, i just think people should stop criticising numbers. I have all three consoles... had all three i gave my wii to my cousin... NONE THE LESS! I think they both have advantages, i also find it quite phenominal that they have almost got even 2-3 years after both released. That is just crazy
