so if i read that right...
a hard drive accessory for the wii is -potentially- coming.
personally, i'd buy it. if marketed right. 60gig hdd's Retail are like 40 bucks.
case etc, i'd put a 60gig hard drive accessory for the wii @ around 80 dollars. but they'll probably charge 99.
now if they supply just the CASE firmware and allow you to install ANY normal hdd inside-- for 25 bucks. KACHING... i have a 16 a 40 a 250 and an 80 gig hdd just sitting around at home currently
I wonder want they are planning to do and why they need all this extra space, I'm willing to bet that this is about more than just VC game storage.
It'd be funny if Nintendo offered something like a 60GB drive for $50, it'd totally put the 360's outrageous prices to shame. Alas, it won't happen, Nintendo likes overcharging for their accessories even more (see: SD cards). Best to hope for is that they allow any external USB drive to work like the PS3 does.
Wonder how big the "storage" will be If Nintendo is smart they will do as Sony and not Microsoft stile with expensive * special* harddrive. But that is not really Nintendo stile they will overprice., Nintendo dont really need extra storage. The good argument that Wii is cheap might be destroyed. The Wii sales are really good but Nintendo might thinking of a bigger picture. To compete with PS3/360 at the online departement I dont really think that they can pull that of. But it depends all on them, Nintendo do your magic!
Does the Wii have a USB port? I'm not sure if I'm reading that article right, but if it's for an external storage device, how would it plug into the Wii?
And if that does come down the pipe, it could expand the Virtual Console offerings to include CD and maybe even some DVD games. The way Sega supports it, I'm sure they'd offer up a ton of Saturn and Dreamcast games.
I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.
Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.
Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!
Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Yeah, there are two USB Ports in the back of the Wii, I agree with r2007 I think this is more about online than anything else.
