Forums - Nintendo - Yes, There Really Is a Zelda Master Timeline Document

No, you cannot see it

But which came first?

There's been plenty of speculation over the years about how all the different Legend of Zelda games fit together: is Link to the Past before Ocarina of Time? Which came first, Minish Cap or Majora's Mask? Despite some outstanding effortsregrettably Nintendo has never informed fans the exact order in which the games happen, if there is even a solid chronology. The good news is that there is: the bad news is you won't find out.

Speaking to the UK's Official Nintendo Magazine, Zelda magnate Eiji Aonuma confirmed that there is a document containing all the answers, but that only himself, Shigeru Miyamoto and Skyward Sword director Hidemaro Fujibayashi are privy to it. He did confirm that Skyward Sword takes place before Ocarina of Time, so those of you who want to guess what wider implications that might have can start guessing now.

Ah crap, they are going the prequel origin route again.

I believe there was a master document but it has since been done away with. Now they are just trying to figure out what goes where via its relation to OoT and its success. Personally, I think they should just abandon the attempt to link the games to each other outside of creating direct sequels to games like Majora's Mask, Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks and Zelda 2.

I mean really there is no point in it since each game is/meant to be a stand alone story and so far they all mainly just wind up creating another alternate/parallel/whatever plance of existence.
