Good if it's just a SW issue...I sincerely hope they impliment it in the starwars game cuz if not that's a great chance missed right there

ps: btw you guys remember that kid who scanned in his skatebaord into Kinect? Can such games be possible? I mean wouldn't the camera have a hard time recognizing the board on the ground? :S for some reason it doesn't sound practical to me

You scan the deck, and lean like you would on a skateboard on the ground or just use it still. It'd basically just put your skateboard over the standard one. Much like a Tony Hawk Ride that would actually work...

oooooh so it's more or less like it scans the 'image' in and replaces the one on the game with it instead of tracking the item itself? Cuz if not I would think the cam might have issues tracking the leg movement

It'd be too wierd to pull off, unless they make the vertical range good enough. It's kinda like the face reconistion on on camera, you can just use and edit the image it takes. Kinect should just track the motions of the body, you could probably use a skateboard if you wanted to.

Yeah it would certainly be interesting to see in action, fingers crossed for GC and TGS

I wonder if this is one of the things that Microsoft had to drop when it changed the hardware.

It was an interesting feature -- but it also sounds like it could have been "smoke and mirrors."

No... Sony owns patents on this... they'll have to work around them or they'll have to be game specific like the ball for the exercise games

I'd think we would still be able to do it.

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

Kuda Tsunoda said on one of the interviews that Kinectimals will have stuffed animals that you can scan into the game.  So the capability must be there.

Absolutely not : With the stuff animal, you get a bar code and this bar code is scanned by the Kinect to give you the animal in the game. it's not a realtime scan of the stuff

And you know this how?  Not to mention having the resolution to scan a bar code means the capability to scan an object will work just fine.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Kinect is not able to scan the common 1D-bar codes like the ones on products. That would probably require an autofocus camera, higher resolution (or printing the barcode 10 times its usual size )

Instead, it's a special proprietary Microsoft 3D-barcode (the third dimension in this case being colour, not depth).

Still likely to happen after all the hardware is capable of scanning so it just comes down to software and we have already seen as per the Milo demo how it could be used to scan images into a game. Before you jump all over me not saying the Milo game represented a working scanning concept but it did show a more realistic scanning function than the original scan of the kids skateboard.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it   ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? Keeping Sigs obscure since 2007, Passed by the Sig police 5July10.

technically possible.  but as i recall...there are legal issues that prevent it from being used.  i think some patent whore owns patents that it would infringe upon.

that would be Sony then, because the feature is prominently used in eyepet

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
