Forums - Gaming - Used Video Games Vs. New Video Games

When you buy video games, are you extremely picky, or do you not care, as long as the game works? Do you buy all of your games brand new, so they are in perfect condition, or do you buy them used, in bad, mediocre, or good condition, and save a lot of money? Do you care for all the boxes, and manuals? Are you fussy about scratches, indents, markings, and other imperfections? Are you even a collector?

Personally, I don't care for boxes, or manuals. As long as the game is in good condition, and works, I will buy it used. Besides, after you buy the game brand new, it becomes used immediately anyways, after you take the shrink wrapping off, and the game instantly loses around $10 of value. I do have my limits though... If the label of a cartridge game is ripped, damaged, or peeling on the corners, I actually wont buy it. CD games, on the other hand, don't bother me, if they are scratched up, for I can always get them resurfaced at a few video game stores.

So, when you buy video games, do you look for new ones, or used ones?

Well nowadays with discs, used games have become more of an option now. Cases don't get as... you know... 'destroyed' as before, and manuals are much easier to keep in a good condition.

i don't mind used as long as the price justifies the condition, but if it is a near mint condition game for only 2 or 3 bucks cheaper than a brand new one, i'll go for the new one

I buy lots of used games. I love to pick up AAA titles a couple years later for 10 bucks. Plus, like fazz said, the cases are usually in good condition.

You can replace the case with a new one for a buck or so.
I don't mind used games but I would definitely check for scratches first before handling over the cash.
So, yeah. I normally buy new.

Used is fine, as long as they're in decent shape. Recycling is good. Manuals and cases aren't really important, with perhaps a few exceptions.

New is fine if you can't get a game used. Also good if you want your dollar to send a message, like "please make more of these games, please, please, please."

I'll buy either, depending on how long the game has been out and what kind of discount the used one is over the new one. Otherwise I could care less.

The only used games I ever buy is from garage sales. Most often you walk away with a couple good/older titles for a fraction of what EB charges.

Everything else has to be new.

I'm a cheapskate; if it works, it's fine with me.

I look back and I never bought much used games. I have no idea why I just prefer to buy them new... I guess I should start getting used ones it could spare me some money! :P
