Wii sells out = sales slump?

...

I think a single look at any of the recent sales figures on this site dubunks this instantly.

I live in Canada and it seems that the wii is impossible to find, i have looked high and low for over two weeks now for one and can't find a single wii anywhere.  Will this lead to the wii being destroyed in sales this christmas by the 360/PS3.  There is less then 4weeks until christmas and i don't think consumers will be holding out forever to find a wii and they will buy a 360/PS3.

Do you guys think that the wii will suffer for just the short term or the long term due to no wii's being available, MS and Sony are really going to cash out this christmas because Nintendo can not meet demand.

Sorry but I think you're wrong.

"What little Billy wants, Billy gets, because if I don't, he won't think I love him, and in turn he won't love me."

The past 3 weeks we've had parents lining up starting at 4:30 in the morning, (starbucks in one hand, cell in the other) in order to get a Wii for their son/daughter for x-mas.  If they don't walk home with one, they will try other locations, but instead will camp out at 3:30am.  As anybody who has lived through the cabbage patch craze knows, parents will go to great legnths to get EXACTLY what their kids want.

The Wii will suffer slightly from the sellouts, but most of the demand will spill over into the spring, just like last year.  I know of a few families that purchased a Wii in April or May turned to their kid to say Merry Christmas.

Why don't thread titles get changed or the threads get locked when this happens?

You're absolutely right. I'm going to throw my Wii out of the window and buy a PS3 now. Thank you, citizen!

Griffin doing his thing again. First I was going to reply with sound reasoning. But I think its not worth it.

This sunday, go to Zellers 1 hour before they open and bask in the greatness that is the Wii ...

I believe it is against the law for a company to advertize a product that they do not have in stock and Zellers (along with several other retailers) releases their weekly ads on Sunday; this means that they will hold off on releasing any Wii systems until Sunday because they are leagally required to have them in stock.

Not exactly. I work at Zellers, so here's what goes down. Flyers start on Saturdays. We usually recieve the stock earlier in the week, around Tuesday or Wednesday. We hold it in the back until Saturday, because otherwise we wouldn't have the Wii's when we say we do. Everyone who comes in or calls gets told the same thing; "Come Saturday morning. Early." So we open on Saturday, and sell the Wii's to everyone in line. The way it works (and the way most stores should work) is if it's in the flyer, then be there bright and early on the starting day of the flyer.

We're also stock piling Wii's for when we're open 24 hours, starting December 19th. We're putting them on the floor at 1am to get people in the store. Stupid I know, but that's what's happening.

And another thing. Wii sales are much higher than PS3's or the 360's. Then 10-12 we do get in, are gone within 20 minutes. Meanwhile our PS3 and 360 stock slowly gets picked off every few days. For every 10 Wii's we sell, probably 4-6 360's get sold, and 2-3 PS3's get sold.

I would like to thank most of you who posted normal stuff in this thread, unlike shams and his wii troll bandwagon friends who troll all the threads. Come christmas time there is going to be a console under little billys tree, and if his parents can't find a wii its going to be a 360/PS3.

This is not a normal part of the year when you just buy a console and one game, this is christmas and you buy lots of wii games and wii-motes and all that wii stuff.  Now parents will be spending $1000 on 360/PS3 stuff instead of wii mercandise.

I don't see why Nintendo could not bump up production even higher, they have loads of cash coming in, and have only increased production 300k over the past 8months.

they can't just snap their fingers and create more materials and factories, y'know; even nintendo is constrained by reality

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Nintendo always try to play safe that why they did not really lost money before.

All there contact factory is cap at max. In order to bump up production higher, there need new factory which equal to a large sum of money. What if Wii suddenly drop in sales, than the factory will be a useless waste of money.

Btw slump is not a good word to use

QFT, Selling out all stock is not slump. having them sitting on shelves not selling is slump. I get what the tc is saying, i just think there will be little impact. I would say ppl would more likely buy ds instead of a wii over 360 or ps3.
