Forums - Sales - Wii sales to slump

Did shortages really hurt the PS2 and DS? Maybe a little, but in the long run it sure is hard to see.

I live in Canada and it seems that the wii is impossible to find, i have looked high and low for over two weeks now for one and can't find a single wii anywhere. Will this lead to the wii being destroyed in sales this christmas by the 360/PS3. There is less then 4weeks until christmas and i don't think consumers will be holding out forever to find a wii and they will buy a 360/PS3.

Do you guys think that the wii will suffer for just the short term or the long term due to no wii's being available, MS and Sony are really going to cash out this christmas because Nintendo can not meet demand.

Oh ok, I see where we're going with this... It's the convoluted logic game!

By this logic, since MS makes software for computers, and computers are in many households in the world, microsoft owns the world!!!!! yeah!

No! If people want the Wii, they'll find and buy the god damn Wii. A five year old child won't know what to do with an xbox. Too many confusing buttons and nothing fun for them to play.

The Wii's target audience won't WANT an xbox or playstation instead. You lose.

Currently playing: Civ 6

I think that it might be helping a bit at the moment because its like the thing that everyone wants but not everyone can have. And as their production rate picks up they will see highly increased sales probably up at DS levels.

The same thing could be said for the DS last year, it was so popular last Christmas that stores ran out and new shipments took into Feb. to replenish stocks. Sure some people bought PSPs instead but with the amount of DSs and Wiis Nintendo is manufacturing this Christmas I don't think any system will be able to catch up.

I'm going to have to agree that the audience that is looking for a Wii really only wants the Wii. Being sold out isn't going to detract these customers. Heck, they'll probably only want it that much more.

Sales would only slump if production decreases. This thread makes no sense.

How does being sold out everywhere = slump? Maybe I'm misinterpreting something.

I'm sure it makes Microsoft and Sony happy that they might receive some extra sales from them being sold out. At the exact same time, they really can't be happy that their competitor is selling out.

Wait, wait. The Wii isn't in stock because it's selling out everywhere all the time...so it's supposed to be "destroyed" by 360 and PS3 which aren't even shipping as much?

At what point did logic flee this forum?

I think the original posters question was pretty simple: Will the Wii lose enough sales because of a shortage to fall behind 360/PS3?

I think the answer is no, for now. They definitely aren't producing enough to meet demand, but I think they will be able to put more consoles on shelves than Microsoft/Sony will be able to sell.

Also, I've heard store owners saying that when customers can't find a Wii, they just move on, they don't even ask about 360/PS3. They want a Wii.

This sunday, go to Zellers 1 hour before they open and bask in the greatness that is the Wii ...

I believe it is against the law for a company to advertize a product that they do not have in stock and Zellers (along with several other retailers) releases their weekly ads on Sunday; this means that they will hold off on releasing any Wii systems until Sunday because they are leagally required to have them in stock.

Yeah they will have them in stock. You know, until they run out. Right?
