Forums - Sales - Europe Will Prevent Sony From Topping Microsoft for the Next 2 Years

I assume economists count students as unemployed as they do every individual or group who is not paying taxes.

As for Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, high unemployment rates will affect how many games are sold.

I remember in the mid and late 1990s where it was common for the top 5 music albums in the US to sell upwards to 3 to 10 million in the first year. Nowadays, most artists are lucky to sell a million to reach platinum status.

Henceforth, the question becomes is it a matter of quality or quantity?

the music market has changed

there are now way more artists than back in those days , because of internet blogs youtube last fm online radio etc that sell music successfuly

the sales just disperse on more artists

That article has nothing to do with console sales and much less to do with Sony.

I see Microsoft as the 3rd place company in the videogame market. Both Sony and Nintendo are light years ahead of Microsoft. I see fanboys think microsoft in 2nd place in the sales league makes them better than sony. In my mind Sony has way more trump cards to play than microsoft. Don't forget microsoft are a distant blimp behind nintendo and sony are really still turning the company around after abysmal sales and getting caught up in the recession. Microsoft have an addon coming otu that will perform just like that, an addon ie nothing stellar. Biggest mistake to design it as an addon. Anyway in my eyes it is 1..Nintendo (as the father of real videogames) 2.. Sony (for their experince) 3..Microsoft (Pretty much for nothing just muscling in)

"...the best way to prepare [to be a programmer] is to write programs, and to study great programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and fished out listings of their operating system." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

"Hey, Steve, just because you broke into Xerox's house before I did and took the TV doesn't mean I can't go in later and take the stereo." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

Bill Gates had Mac prototypes to work from, and he was known to be obsessed with trying to make Windows as good as SAND (Steve's Amazing New Device), as a Microsoft exec named it. It was the Mac that Microsoft took for its blueprint on how to make a GUI.

""Windows [n.] - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.""

Well, according to the OP, it's more like EU is going to make it harder for MS to STAY #2.  I mean even with the recession the PS3 Slim is still selling well.  And it usually does ~ 20K a week over the 360 in all of EMEAA.  So, do you think that the 360S is going to have a miserable launch, now?  Are does the recession only affect Sony?

Maybe I'm missing something. The economy has been shite for 2-3 years but PS3 has been far ahead in EU for that time. A 500K higher install base despite the (nearly) 18 month lead to make up and all that razzmatazz. Sony will always be bigger than Microsoft over there.

Edit- It does say Sony will be third for another 2 years. They probably will but how does EU fit it? NA is to blame, 360 is the bees knees in the States. EU are largely indifferent to the console.

This has nothing to do with anything, really. Even less so with the written topic. And i dont know what source have been used to find these statistics, but most of them are way off or not even true.

Its basicly 700 words saying "unemployed Spainards are unemploed". And that last part was a bit to political. How is it elitist to have a full time job? BS article imo.
