What shortage? :/ Well I guess the shortage I never knew about is officially over... Btw why would a company like Sony screw up logistics this bad? I thought they were a hardware company and all that.

primogen18 said Shortage? If you mean that at least 5 or 6 sitting in TRU's back room just about at all times except more after a truck  is a shortage... then... I guess so...

laughing out loud so i guess NPSs ps3s 2X sales rise form may had nothing to do with supply meeting demand

People at Sony are very clever.

If by "very clever" you mean they completely misjudged the market this gen and lost billions of dollars as well as going from first place last gen to third place 5 years into this gen, then yes, Sony are very clever.

About time they got these shortages sorted out.

Who's the best Pac, Nas, and Big. Just leave it to that.

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Slaughterhouse Is The Sh*t  .... NOW ........ B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Bullshit, they sold well so they are saying that. The shortage was over a long time ago, I don't believe this is anything but work from the PR department of Sony trying to get people to keep buying the PS3. 300K on the NPD report is damn good, and Sony has the right to be thrilled with those numbers without a pricedrop nor anything like MS..

In the US it was in short supply do to the trasition from PS3s with a 65nm chipset and ones with a 45nm chipset. Takes time to change your production flows fully. Especially considering they chose to do it right after the holidays when stock was naturally low as it was.

But surely they would take that into account and only withdraw 65nm production once 45nm production had started to ramp up?

Not if they are built on the same line, plus you have to consider retooling the factories. Its just as simply as you think.

The PS3 motherboard is identical, all they changed were a few chips. Its not like they stopped producing TVs and started producing Blu Ray players on the same production line.

i thought it was over about a month ago?

Actually, I think he means "very clever" in that, Sony wanted/needed to maximize profits on a cheaper to build version of the PS3 by slowing/stopping production on the more expensive model.  In this scenario, Sony is very clever.

And yes, Sony lost a lot of money from some bad decisions, but they have overcome many obsticals.  All these years later, after releasing with an expensive price tag, they are still in the race, and they are starting to make a profit.  Luckily, they have saved around 2 billion in profit from their previous generations and can now, hopefully add to that.

Nintendo has always been profitable and Microsft (after losing somewhere over 6 billion dollars on the XboX brand) is seeing profit over the last year or so.  Things are going well for the big 3 right now.  I just want to see the same happen with the developers, so we can our hands on even more kick ass games.

Lies. The shortages are never over. It'll come back. Just you wait!

yes, that's why we see the influence of the shortage ending in the June NPD report

This! I'm talking about this situation, it was very obvious. We are talking about last June NPD.

its 40nm from 65 chip for the GPU the CPU was always 45nm once slim came out not that the extra 5nm matters just saying thats all

45nm->40nm matters. Even being a half node, 40nm represents a reduction of about a 20% of the chip size.
