What shortage? :/ Well I guess the shortage I never knew about is officially over... Btw why would a company like Sony screw up logistics this bad? I thought they were a hardware company and all that.

primogen18 said Shortage? If you mean that at least 5 or 6 sitting in TRU's back room just about at all times except more after a truck  is a shortage... then... I guess so...

laughing out loud so i guess NPSs ps3s 2X sales rise form may had nothing to do with supply meeting demand

Not only that, but Sony stated it, Gamestop (I think) stated it, but I guess people do not wan't to believe on this. Oh well, these new NPD numbers proves it.

And Sony did not screwed up, they did all this on because they wanted: cleaned stock, introduced a profitable (for them) PS3 and unleashed it when MS did their move. People at Sony are very clever.

The nearly double monthly totals from May to June did show an obvious rise in sales, but keep in mind that May was 4 weeks while June was 5. So, it really isn't as big as a rise in weekly sales as you both think.

In the US it was in short supply do to the trasition from PS3s with a 65nm chipset and ones with a 45nm chipset. Takes time to change your production flows fully. Especially considering they chose to do it right after the holidays when stock was naturally low as it was.

But even when you consider weekly sales "PS3 spiked from under 40,000 per week in May to over 60,000 per week in June." Check out the link: http://www.vgchartz.com/article/80885/npd-tallies-june-2010-video-game-revenues-in-the-usa-market/ . We are still talking about a weekly increase over 50% with nothing really big for PS3 (HW or SW, or am I missing something?).

its 40nm from 65 chip for the GPU the CPU was always 45nm once slim came out not that the extra 5nm matters just saying thats all

I agreed that there was a shortage, just that it didn't double in sales.

But surely they would take that into account and only withdraw 65nm production once 45nm production had started to ramp up?

True but there was still a clear increase due to shortages. 5 is 125% of 4, so June's sales should be roughly 125% of May's sales if there were no shortages. Instead, June sales were nearly 200% of May's sales. That shows that there was a pretty big boost.

True, I completely forget about 5 vs 4 weeks before, my bad.

Not if they are built on the same line, plus you have to consider retooling the factories. Its just as simply as you think.
