This is a really strange situation -- one the adult should have controlled.  Though I am not sure that society is best served by paying 9-30 years of room and board for this woman (cost is approximately $50,000 per year).

The flip sided is that your painting the picture of this kid having NOOO control over his own actions...calling his mom a predator is to extreme...im sure her goal was not just have sex with her son of any child in general * like most predetors* It was just a freak accident on both there parts but shes just gonna have to pay the bigger price for it.

When we're talking about kids we must go by the pressumption that they don't know any better. The illegal part in this whole situation is that she had sex with him, not vice-versa.

Fine, to be honest I shared your POV when I first heard the Roman Polanski case. Of course I doubt you'd say something similar regarding that case now would you?

Men are vunerable to vagina at any age. We always want sex as quick as possible. Sometimes I want sex after having sex. Our opinions of abuse differ. I especially don't consider it abuse when its consenual sex.

I think logically and understand how the typical male thinks. While you have religious ideals and are naive. Obviously we can't see eye to eye on this topic.

Dude, if all the guys around you told you they were having sex at 14, chances are they are full of it. Sure it might have happened to a few of them, but boys talk big and lie because modern society places an improper emphasis on sex for both genders. When I was 12, kids were saying they got laid. One time my brother called a kid out on who was 13, it while we were hanging out. The kid didn't even know about the natural vaginal lubrication that occurs during sex, was faking his "deep voice", and on top of that, stumbled when trying to come up with a name.

If we was willing to talk to a counselor about it he obviously thought there was something wrong about it. Chances are, at the time he didn't see it, didn't care, or couldn't fully comprehend the consequences of having sex with his own mother, but that's why we have laws preventing that, because 18 year olds (and up) know better, and the under-aged do not. The reason why it's worse being his mother is that she is in an even greater position of power.

Seriously, I mean, imagine if for some reason (probably being ADOPTED to another set of parents), you had the hots for your mom, had sex with her at 14, and you regretted it later. Embarrassed and ashamed, it killed you inside and you HAD to tell someone (Notice he told a counselor, not his mom), it's like that. If he didn't have any regrets or problems with it, he would have just kept doing it. But apparently that wasn't the case, and even if it were, it doesn't make it right.

If it were a girl, you wouldn't be assuming she didn't "want it" and that she was forcibly violated. Believe it or not, it can and has happened the way it happened to this boy. It's really fucked up, but it happens, and maybe the 14-year old boy/girl doesn't/didn't know what's going on. Hell, some of my current (highschool) friends (girls for the most part, but there were a few guys) were never told what sex was exactly but just not to do it. They sought out and found information via other kids, but that wasn't for a while, and at 14, they could have been taken advantage by people they trusted and not known it.

Keep in mind during this whole little discussion, 14 years old is the age of an 8th grader/freshman. And that's current. There may have been an even bigger delay of him telling. It could have happened when he was 13 or 12, or possibly even younger. That usually happens.

Even considering the option of willing, consensual sex (which is legally impossible when under the age of consent), there is no basis in this case for assuming that's what happened. A horny kid with enough knowledge and understanding might go show off to his mates about having boned a mature lady. Not to a counselor that he'd had sex with his biological mother.

At 14 I was not willingly into having sex with a woman. I knew enough about sex, knew that I was gay and that I didn't sexually fancy women. Yet I'm pretty sure a woman could have made me horny, just about anyone could have done that. Leaving brute force aside (even though a 14 y/o boy is not necessarily stronger than a 30 y/o woman), kids are easier to control, especially by people who already have some, even if slight, authority status over them, and especially in unfamiliar situations.

Absolutely true that a lot of kids have sex before age of consent, especially when that's at 18. I did, and nobody ever got sued over that (and they also lowered the age to 16 as soon as I was 18...). So the law aside, it's not some static age, with kids feeling ready and knowing enough about what they are doing on a specific day. But it takes knowing what you want and what you're getting into. And if it's with an adult, it also takes a lot of responsibility, from both sides.

And in this case there was absolutely no responsibility from either. And unless that kid was aiming to get his mother sued, his reaction to the incident really points more to being totally unprepared and confused. Even nowadays there still are sheltered kids, maybe not ones thinking that erections are for peeing on fences, but clueless enough.
