Forums - Sony - Killzone 3 Missing The Holiday Season - Good or Bad?

Many people thought Killzone 2 was going to be a sales monster on the PS3. Even Sony said before the game came out they are expecting MGS4 numbers, but as we all know, it never reached those numbers

Now, there could be a number of reasons - Killzone wasn't really a popular franchise, the controls felt off to many many people, the PS3 was much smaller back in the begging of 2009 and one I'm trying to figure it also had an impact - It didn't come out during the holiday season. Instead, Sony preferred to put out Resistance 2 out there. Resistance 2 also didn't light up the chars, as we know.

As I see it, there are several advantages and disadvantages to release Killzone 3 in February

Advantages

1. Avoiding competition with huge FPS franchises like Halo and Call of Duty

2. A lot of people will have both Playstation Move and 3D TV's by February. Killzone 3 supports both. This could drive up sales.

Disadvantages

1. Missing the much needed sales spike the holiday season gives

2. Indirectly competing with another huge franchise, Gears of War.

Do you think they should release it this year or release it in February? or even later?

Gears of War 3 won't be releasing until April. Killzone 3 will be in a good post holiday position if you ask me. It'll do better than competing with Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, and Halo Reach. Also KZ2 was released Feb. 2009. Most games tend to release in 2-year intervals.

God of war 3 was released early this year  (February I think) and sold a million in the first week. I think KZ3 is getting plenty of hype and so only needs great reviews and it will sell really well, similar sales to GOW3 maybe??

This is not an exit.

Would you rather compete against the likes of COD Black opps and GT5 or release on a non holiday period? God of war 3 didn't release on holiday season yet it's soon to be @ 3m and going strong.

I reckon they should release it in june 2011, since it will get the summer holiday sales spike, avoid competition from well known franchises and it will allow the move and 3d technology to seriousy take off.

If KZ3 releases during the hoilday it not only needs to compete with CoD and MoH(?? don't know when it will release), huge PS3 exclusives like LBP2 and GT5 will also steal attentions from it, releasing in Feb/March will see it as the first major PS3 exclusive of 2011, so I think its a better release time.

inFamous 2  will probably be released around that time.

March is good. It needs to avoid the stacked holiday season. And PS3 software sales have gotten much better since early 2009.

Who's the best Pac, Nas, and Big. Just leave it to that.

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Slaughterhouse Is The Sh*t  .... NOW ........ B_E_L_I_E_V_E

It's actually good they missed it. KZ3 would never be able to compete with halo, cod, gt5 this holiday season is looking a bit to crowded if you asked me.Some good games might not get the sales they need( similaar situation with RDR and other titles lanuching around that time)

its been confirmed today that GT5 has a weather system, track editor and go karts! seriously i think this is going to be the best selling in the series even beating GT3 sales of 14 million plus!

I think it's a good thing to release it in 2011, I would be good for the PS3 exclusive hype, you got KZ3, infamous 2,twisted metal, The Last Guardian FF XIV(well console exclusive) possibly FFXIII Versus, ect, new  ip's like sorcery, and possibly  E3 announcements like Uncharted 3 and Resistance 3.

Killzone 3 could be the start to a spectacular PS3 line-up
