Well, it's official now, according to our sales graphs. Europe/others is now the Wii's territory primarily (with the largest install base), as it finally surpassed the 360 in total hardware sold week ending December 1.

"Europe/Others" Hardware totals as of December 1:

4.58m - Wii

4.45m - Xbox360

2.50m - Playstation3

Wii is down only in America now in terms of hardware, with 6,710,000 as opposed to the 360's 8,860,000 (totals as of November 24).

Other numbers have been jumping around quite a bit lately. At one point the Wii was way ahead, only to drop back down later. Hopefully the numbers have stabalized themselves now.

aye we should wait a month and see which week it was to confirm... the updates for PAL don't at least extend far back in time anymore.... i had the weekly sales added into a spreadsheet and one week PAL got updated from June all the way back to January (possibly further, i started the data in Jan)...i was a bit miffed and wasn't going to change it all so i stopped adding to the spreadsheet.

I don't think he was saying that "Others" is completely Wii dominated, just that it has the largest install base there now since it passed the 360.

Given the time of year it is and how much we can guarantee the Wii outsold the 360 by more than 20,000 consoles in "Others" regions (which is what it needed to overcome the 360), I think we can rest assured that the Wii is indeed in first place.

Additionally, we can also guarantee that it will continue outselling for the rest of this month at least. So, that gap will only widen.

I think we're safe.

Also, updated with a Digg article. As soon as we get an updated chart, I'll update the initial post again with the chart as well.

I think the graph makes it clear it's fairly safe trend and lead...

Given how great Wii sales have been, it seems amazing that it took so long, but it's true. It shows how difficult it is to overtake a console's installed base, even when sales are fantastic.

Particularly when that console is still pretty darn popular (the 360 isn't doing FANTASTICALLY in Europe, but it's definitely doing fairly well), and has a year's head start.
