Forums - Microsoft - XBLA is a "slaughterhouse" for smaller developers

So this translates as my games isn't good enough to attract buyers given the competition on XBLA, I'll try to mug some other crowd instead?

Seems more likely some shovelware dev trying to get attention for their game by using "console wars" to advertise it.  I wouldn't buy their game on principal of how low this PR stunt is.

Its actually a tremendous game, which is why a lot of us dont know what to think about this because had it been crap then his argument can be easily explained.....but the games actually great so it lends credibility to his reasoning, imo. I think youre being too harsh and perhaps youre too jaded, maybe he truly just feels that way, right or wrong, about where his product should go......and who knows maybe this way its easier to migrate to XBLA than vice versa, since its self published.

I think youre too caught up in console wars and just cant take his explanation at face value. He was indeed speaking at a developers conference if im not mistaken, where they were doing a presentation on such things for self publishing etc. So its not like he just came out of nowhere and bashed XBLA in an interview about their company or something.

No, what would add credibility to his reasoning is PSN stats to run against the "stats" he provided for XBLA to show how vastly superior it is regarding self published titles, which he conveniently didn't do. All in all, it's their loss, XBLA has more than enough great games to go around, particularly this year.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

You also have to bear in mind that from this year developers will have Xbox Live -> Windows Mobile 7 cross compatibility from what I saw in one of the various presentations around. From there they can go Windows Phone 7 -> Android and iPhone if they so chose as well. So the market size supporting this number of releases is about to get a lot bigger.

Well yeah thatd be ideal. Im not even saying i agree with him, i think they could have easily self published on both consoles and word of mouth would have been more than enough if they were worried about no marketing on XBLA etc. Let me just say i disagree with his decision as a gamer.

What i meant was if the game sucked i could easily dismiss what hes saying due to the fact he could just be saying anything to lie about a crap product. But since hes probably more privy  to this info than you or I, the fact it doesnt appear hes hiding behind a crappy product, to me, means maybe we can take his comment/opinion at face value.

Its bullshit viral PR marketing he's using to sell his product to a crowd, pure and simple imo.

If you want to believe him at face value then fair enough though, I'm not saying my opinion is fact, it's just the way I feel when I read statements like this when people go out of their way to criticize a service they're no using.  I would respect the guy far more for singing the praises of PSN, there was no need for him to criticize XBL other than to say it didn't suit his financial model for example.

With 87 at metacritic I think 50 000 is not a big number.

SO breaking even in first day with 50,000 is not good? ok cause now that they broke even with 50k first day sales after that is pure profit, profit = BAD worst that breaking even.

To be fair a lot of those games that sell under 25K suck ass. Frankly, a vast majority of the titles found on XBLA are garbage.

Joe Danger has a better MetaCritic score than most games on XBLA and I definitely think it could have been a hit on the 360.

In a nutshell, bad games sell bad.
