Very good movie.

Best Sci-fi ever? No.

But its up there. The special effects were some of the best ever...Not like Avatar 'oh look at this, its pretty, but thats about it', but the smart kind of SFX that have you going 'woah, I would of never thought of that!', especially during the hotel scenes.

I just read a plausible story explanation, which is insanely trippy, but well thought out. There is so much to contemplate about the movie, it makes for a great time.

What is there to contemplate about? Thre is just one thing as far as I'm concerned... Is he still in a...? Or isn't he...

And the answer is pretty clear if one thinks about it.

Best movie I have seen in a very long time.

Easily in my top 10, and probably in my top 5 of all time.

I just plain loved it.

I have a feeling a lot of people will think this about Inception. It appeals to the intellect of the audience and doesn't think they are stupid, which is rare in holywood...

@ disolitude

I really enjoyed the movie, but I've come to the same conclusion as you. Sure there are some wild theories floating around that call into question the foundations of the movie, but I personally feel that everything except the ending was cut and dry. It wasn't like Memento where you leave the movie questioning every little thing.

I'd say that it's my second favourite Nolan directed movie after Memento.

Agreed. He makes great movies and if I'd have to rate them in order I'd say.

1.Momento

2. Inception

3. Prestige

4. Batman

5. Dark Knight

Until someone explains to me why Batman had to take the fall in the Gotham City's media for Harvey's death...instead of blaming the Joker which would pretty much be the truth...Dark Knight stays on the bottom.

Im right there with you on that order.  Momento is just a special movie.

Dark Knight stays on the bottom because it has ruined one man for the rest of his career and ended another's.

To be fair, the answer isn't very clear. The totem didn't exhibit the typical spinning while on the table at the end.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

hate to break it to ya, but yes, sci-fi DOES need to keep things in check. Why? Because of SCIENCE, science is nothing but rules and explanations and Nolan did in such a way that it didn't feel like a clumsy, boring infodump like most sci-fi. Very nice in that you insult respectable critics and the public by calling them "bankrupt on imagination", GREAT way to sell your argument.

I saw it yesterday and absolutely loved it.  This is right up there with The Matrix as far as Sci-Fi films go.  Great action scenes and a thought provoking narrative.

It was also the first movie I had ever seen in an Imax theater as well.  Blew my  mind away.

huh? Do you always come in to a thread with boxing gloves in your first post...

Sci fi movies are based on logic and obviously need explanations. However a sense of discovery is also required. Its what stimulates the viewers mind when it comes to sci fi movies. this discovery can be a discovery of the technology, discovery of the world, or even discovery of the characters.

Inception has very little of that. Its a movie which immedialy categorizes the players involved and the game of the mind with logistics and explanations. Every great science fiction movie approaches the 3rd act with a question... "What does all this mean?".  In Inception the whole 3rd act is just a really complicated ticking clock. Its a good movie...just not a great science fiction flick.

Reason why I stated those things in my OP is because I read 3-4 reviews which are saying this is the best sci fi movie of the last 20 years, which to me is a laughable statement...

Yeah, but the kids... the clothes...their age...same...

Not to mention that the whole "I make 1 phone call...10 minutes before the plane lands...and you are cleared to go in to America". You're dreaming if you think that can work in reality :)
