Forums - Microsoft - Square: MS unwilling to work on FFXIV 360 problems

Final Fantasy XIV not due for the Xbox 360 according to Hiromichi Tanaka

Final Fantasy XI isn't just one of the only console MMOs in existence, it's also the most successful of the lot, due in part to the wide spread of available platforms. Since the game has long been playable on the Xbox, there were several Final Fantasy XIV fans (or Xbox 360 owners) hoping it would eventually come out on that console as well. But it's not happening, and according to a recently translated interview from 4players.de, the reason rests squarely with Microsoft.

When asked in an interview why Final Fantasy XIV wasn't appearing on Microsoft's console, Hiromichi Tanaka explained that Microsoft was unwilling to work with Square-Enix to deal with the Xbox Live setup. As he put it, it seemed the company made a one-time exception with Final Fantasy XI to get the console in people's minds as an online platform, but now that it's established the gates are closed. There are currently no plans to adapt the game for the console, but it will still be coming out for the PC in late September, with a Playstation 3 release due at some point after that. Check the interview here (if you can read German), and the translated highlights can be found here.

makes sense really, from all sides. On a side note. I got an email from Square Enix. The second Alpha starts tommorow and I'm excited as can be for an MMO

I don't like MMO's by the way after trying many including FFXI, WOW, Everquest, Eve

I doubt many will care or notice... this game will fail dismally imo.

Fail dismally?

You do know that Final Fantasy XI is more successful than any FF game right? Including VII.

FFXI was pretty huge success indeed. Here is proof of that. 117 milj revenue last year and it is pretty old game. No wonder that they made XIV also online.

Indeed. Also happens to be my current favorite MMORPG, but I see that changing very soon!

Very disappointed that Microsoft is being so stubborn. Cutting SE out like this isn't exactly helping their cause to get more SE support. Especially after they desperately tried to get it.

ff14 online i think its gonna be a great game for ppl who like mmorpg`s.

its another plus point for ps3, as soon as agency, dc universe and other mmo`s hit ps3, the console will look a better purrchase for mmorpg players.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Oh definitely. I really love that SE is supporting MMOs on consoles. I was planning on getting it for my PS3, but I decided to buy a PC capable of playing it. :D

...My poor wallet.

in kowenicki's defense  - i'm pretty sure he meant the game will fail on consoles.  it's cool and all that this game will be on the ps3 but let's face the facts....a vast majority of the players will be on the PC.

Based on the communities it is actually the flip side. The requirements are slightly high. Especially since alot of FFXI players are jumping ship and their PCs are dated. So they found it easier to get the PS3 version. But, it got delayed sadly.

I have no interest in a Final Fantasy MMO, so this is meh worthy to me. Stinks for those interested though.
