Forums - Gaming - Ironman mode in RPG?

It would be great if there's an option in the RPG titles such as FF/DQ and the like.

Make it possible to complete the game without visiting town ever again as soon as you leave the first town.

This make salvaging items fun and would actually forces you to use them.

Of all the RPG i've played in recent years, I've hardly ever use items and if I do, I was never short on them.

Make items useful and actually life saving in critical situation.

Most of the ones I've played, they may as well leave items out completely and the game is still the same.

This is compounded greatly when the games getting easier and easier, too.

Group heal items such as "Tent" would be extremely valuable instead of never ever get used.

Would any devs crazy enough to introduce something like this and not cripple the storyline?

In case you don't know what "Ironman mode" means.

Back in the Diablo/2 days, people'd start a brand new character and do all their (limited) shopping in town. As soon as they set out, they never return to town and try to go as far as possible without dying.

The char also have only 1 life, meaning, you don't reappear in town after you got killed. Your character is permanently dead.

The challenge there is also for you to decide whether to use that precious item and guarantee you'd survive a little longer or risk an Oh-KO and save that life saving potion for the next danger.
