Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 360 Revision more important to EU than US?

i'll be happy if 360 sales go back to 50,000 - 60,000 weekly.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

It's not because MS needs the 360 to reign supreme here in the United States, and if they lost the edge here, they would be out of the race and people would start jumping ship from the States. They cannot afford that, hence the early release of this new system redesign (slim). MS needs to not go back to losing after the sales even out after the old models are gone, and first adopters have their hardware.

It's much more important here in the States, in EU, it's a lost cause and you have to admit this.

I think the 360 will continue to grow its fanbase. I was actually a little suprised that the European sales weren't a little stronger with the release of the slim model. Overall, you may be correct. As far as Japan is concerned, I'm not really sure. I know that generally they take to "different" types of video gaming. Will Kinnect do that for them? We'll have to wait and see.

I think it has always been clear that the EU market is the true HD console battle ground. The 360 has shown that it can win here in what some would consider Sony territory. The important features that may take the EU for Microsoft for 2010 are...

  • A redesigned model. This is important because quality is often considered something that the discerning EU purchaser takes into account. If they believe this new model finally resolves the hardware issues this could see improved sales.
  • 4 years are up... A lot of the early 360 users will now be finding that the extended warranty is about to expire.
  • It is quiet and finally can nestle under the telly in the living room without causing the missus to ask what that whinning noise is.
  • The last one is a punt but Kinect could eat into the casual market. The Wii is on a serious decline in the UK not sure about the rest of the EU but Some have it down by over 35% down on last year,  if they get this right and make it appealing they could despite the high price attract the casual market which I think are looking for something new.

Sounds like the same arguments for increased sales in the US and that is because they are. What will be interesting I think if the two areas brand loyalty and quality can challenged by Microsoft. I think the product has the potential cartainly they have more to play for in the EU territory and I am not sure if it is Sony's to lose.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it   ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? Keeping Sigs obscure since 2007, Passed by the Sig police 5July10.

Lost cause in EU?

How so?

Software is above average....Hardware sales ATM are average and nothing to frown at. PS3 has what sold like 500k-600k more lftd vs 360 atm.

With 15millon consoles sold why give up etc?

IF the slim kinect rape in sales over the ps3 for the next 3-6 months then more than likely 360 back on top on who has sold more there.

It hasnt launched in Europe yet. We are only able to get the older stock which no one really wants now. Hence slowing sales in Europe. Week after July 17th expect to see a blip.

I think this thread is a fine example of what my poll asking about a european chart was trying to say.

If we look at European numbers for full weeks data for this year (10th Jan start date) we see PS3 sold 1.2m in Europe and 360 sold 900k. That is for 7 months of data off of the back of a PS3 price cut and new model and a actual 360 price increase. To be only 300k behind for the year considering those factors is pretty good going and shows that europe actually likes the 360 just as much as the PS3.

A huge contribution to the numbers actually comes from outside europe. If we use the same time frame of 10th Jan to today we see in EMEAA figures outside europe PS3 sold 568k and 360 only 290k. Meaning in this region PS3 has sold almost 2 to 1 over 360. These numbers make the numbers but more importantly the gap in EMEAA look better for PS3. But when you remove those countries from outside europe you see the weekly gap is actually not that big. Especially when as mentioned you take into account the recent price cut's and price increases. When we get the figures for the new 360s in EU that EU gap will be a lot less then it's current 300k gap for the whole year.

Which as i said is another example of why Europe now needs it's own chart. The middle east, asia, africa numbers make the gap look a lot bigger overall when really it isn't.
