Halak got a pretty good deal.

I don't know if he is worth that much.  I know 3.75 mil a year isn't awesome money, but that puts him around the 15th best paid goalie in the NHL now, is he really worth 60% of a Luongo? :P

Rob Niedermayer signed with the sabres

He will be a good 3rd line player just keep his minutes in the 15 minute range and he will be a good addition.

Now he has to persuade his brother to sign on in the middle of the season

I would take Halak over Luongo

Luongo is a shaky playoff performer

I agree.  Halak's playoff performance was much better than Luongo's.  Luongo tends to give up a soft goal after giving up a soft goal if you know what I mean.

Simon Gagne to the Tampa Bay Lightning for d-man Walker and 4th round pick.

Great trade for T-Bay, if Gagne stays healthy he will definitely boost their offense:

Downie-Stamkos-St. Louis
Gagne-Lecavailer-Malone

Strong top 6 for sure. Yzerman is performing above my expectations thus far. Though I really think they should have signed Nabokov.

Also here's to hoping the rumours are true Filatov for Bieksa! Haha, Gillis would be a genius if he pulled that off. Unlikely though. GO CANUCKS GO!

Thats it for Gagne?

walker and a fourth?

My head is shaking

I'm a Sabres fan but the flyer fans have got to be unhappy unless it is part of another trade

12 years and 101m is turned down, but 17 years and 102m is taken?

The Flyers also gained a lot of cap space, it was essentially a salary dump, there are also rumours that the Flyers are now going to pursue Turco.

@ Tanstalas

Kovalchuk cares about winning, not just money like many seem to think. The Devils are a model franchise for competing year after year. Los Angeles, Atlanta, and the Islanders have been joke franchises for the vast majority of the past decade. While L.A. definitely has a bright future, I guess Kovalchuk just decided New Jersey would be better. Lamorillo is a genius, arguably one of the greatest builders in league history.

The Devils not only provide Kovalchuk with the money, but with the track record to make things happen in the future too. I still wish he went to Los Angeles though, I hate the Devils. Every year I say it's their time to miss the playoffs but it never happens. The fanbase's expectations have been so high for so long, that they've become spoiled. They should be selling out every game, but they don't. It's sad.

why dit have to be Gagne, such a heart and soul player...
