Gotta love the forum posters making fun of forum posters LOL
i wouldn't doubt that they break even about then
Unless there's another pricedrop ps3 losses from now on will be minimal. Most of the ps3 losses in the 2nd quarter accounts were writedowns from the pricedrop.

Of course they did, the 7800, Lynx and Jaguar are figments of our imaginations... not to mention thier computers.
Sony estimate that they'll stop taking losses at the current price in 15 months? Not including whatever they'll start loosing again with their next price drop?
That sounds pretty bad to me. I don't imagine they can exactly do a lot when shareholders are barking not to go further into the red.
Sony don't mean they will make back all of the money the PS3 has lost them thus far by 2009. They mean either breaking even on hardware, or making money from PS3 hardware, accessories and software combined.

Ok, here is some data from their earnings reports (millions of USD):
FY 2003 650
FY 2004 404
FY 2005 75
Profit of over 1.1B (I did not find reports for previous years)
FY 2006 -1969
Q1 2007 -237
Q2 2007 -841
Loss of 3B
So they accumulated 3B in losses with the PS3 but they sold their share on the Cell manufacturing plant to Toshiba for 800M this quarter (Q3). Anyway they still need to make 2.2B to break even.
I will consider Sony very successful if they make a profit in the Game division for FY 2008. If they can do this, then they will easily recover their losses in the next 2 years.
They need to stop losing money, the money they already lost (2.2-3B) is not too bad for a console that is supposed to last for 10 years.
But can you really consider the $800million sale price of the CELL manufacturing facility to be part of PS3 revenue?

Yes, breaking even is no where near paying back the huge deficit Sony has incurred in pushing the Ps3 or for that matter the many steps they've been forced to take back from their ambitions to bankroll the PS3 nightmare.
Hasn't Sony made similar claims of breaking even already. I know a number of members on this forum have already argued the PS3 wasn't just breaking even, but making a profit.
Will sony once again provide us no proof outside of their word for these new claims?
