Forums - Sony - Sony: We “Legitimized [Gaming] As A Form Of Entertainment!

If" legitimized" means "sold a lot of consoles", then yeah.

Legitimate means ( I checked ) to make legal. And gaming has had some restrictions but I am sure that it never needed to be legalized. (May be addictive but is not weed). What I think  he was trying to say is that they made gaming a form of entertainment as common as TV, music or film and that's not true. Not even Nintendo can claim such a thing.

I think Nintendo made gaming a little bit more socially acceptable as a form entertainment this generation. But I feel that most people still see gaming as something weird and even bad for society.

well, sony is right     before the ps1  only  kids played videogames ,    lol fanboys obviously wont accept it

Yeah sure, you do know that the Gameboy was also targeted at adults right?

And about 40% of the users in the NES/SNES Generation were adults, in-case you didn't know this was before the PS1.

Yeah, that's probably why they named the console Gameboy.

GameBoy's two initial targets in Japan were actually school children and traveling businessmen.  In fact, the reasoning for making the platform region free was so that professionals traveling overseas could buy a game anywhere and still play it on their Japanese system.

Funny enough, the Famicom originally featured dual advertising as well, targeting both children and adults.  Nintendo's original plans for the device were all encompassing and pretty progressive for the 1980s, as a living room entertainment device that the kids could play games on, mom could download recipes on or dad could check stocks on.  A lot of what you find in Wii and DS in terms of wider reach and application (Wii no Ma, Cooking Navi, etc) has it's real roots in the Famicom.

Yeah i agree with them.

Before the PS1 - Associated with nerdy, geeky, no life gamers that had long, curly ginger hair, harry potter glasses and old jeans.

PS1 and PS2 - A more mainstream company enters. Associated with a wide range of people playing, and addiction.

Xbox 360 - Associated with mouthy, fat American teens playing online 24/7 and breaking up with their girlfriends for COD or Halo.

PS3 -Associated with the tech savy, well off, sophisticated alpha male who games to relax and enjoys high definition movies.

Wii - Kiddies, females and the elderly.

So i'd agree. And put your survey charts away, we all know in the real world that these are common views on the consoles.

Sony helped broaden the appeal of games, but 'legitimising it' is just utter BS

The NES, gameboy, DS and Wii IMO did far more to 'legitimising gaming'
