GameBoy's two initial targets in Japan were actually school children and traveling businessmen. In fact, the reasoning for making the platform region free was so that professionals traveling overseas could buy a game anywhere and still play it on their Japanese system.
Funny enough, the Famicom originally featured dual advertising as well, targeting both children and adults. Nintendo's original plans for the device were all encompassing and pretty progressive for the 1980s, as a living room entertainment device that the kids could play games on, mom could download recipes on or dad could check stocks on. A lot of what you find in Wii and DS in terms of wider reach and application (Wii no Ma, Cooking Navi, etc) has it's real roots in the Famicom.
