I would give Mass Effect a nine and a half. Its story was as good or better than that of any game I have ever played (Bioshock included, though thats a close call), and my total play time was just a little over 35 hours. I have just begun what will be my second complete play-though, which will bring my game-time to around 70 hours. Admittedly it will then be a few months until my next play through, but you can rest assured it will happen, and will mean this game has given me over 100 hours of enjoyment.

So you're assuming that since you took the time to do every single quest you could find and read every codex entry and play the game more than once that everyone will do the same?  I'm sorry to break this to you but everyone isn't like you and the vast majority of people will not complete this game more than once and a good amount of people won't even complete the game once.

As much as I like Mass Effect, the gameplay wasn't good enough to keep going and the story doesn't change enough to make people want to complete it more than once.  Sure, some people will think I wonder what happens if I go renegade or maybe what happens if I help this guy cheat but most people won't go beyond wondering.

Remember, most people that frequent these kind of forums aren't the norm.

Dont think so Difference in license and the actual game. License could just mean all sequals and spin offs.

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

You cant say that Jhlennon since MGS4 and FF are not out.

In my opinion you can keep them as long as i get mass effect, ive rarely been as impressed as i am with this game. the ONLY thing that hurt really hurts the game is the framerate issues and loading. Besides that its a jewel in video games. This game has so much to offer, and no rpg has ever offered more replayability.

To say mass effect isnt unique is completly rediculas, least in my opinion. Yet to play a game with the amount of cotent, voice acting, and the way story evolves.

Mass effect is dirt crap compared to MGS4 and FF 13.........HA

Oho, greatest huh?

Graphics? Well you can take your realistic looking game with shitty frame rate and load issues and I'll take my beautifully painted 2D games like Chrono Trigger and FFVI.

Story? While Mass Effect has awesome background and characters, it doesn't compare to FFVI and its character development.

Replayability? Mass Effect does offer incentives to replay the game several times, but I doubt most people are going to play the entire game through more than one time. That leaves you with about 15-20 hours of gameplay on average. If you look at something like FFVI that game lasts, what, 40 hours? If you look at Chrono Trigger that game has 13 different endings and it does a great job at encouraging players to actually want to come back.

I won't argue that Mass Effect is a wonderful game but just don't say it's the best at anything besides perhaps voice acting.

-edit-
As for talking about FFXIII and MGS4 and trying to compare those games, there's no point in even trying since, you know, none of us have played the finished game yet.

Load issues were really not that bad, they had their moments but really didnt destroy the game, you must really hate them

This is opinion as is your whole post, i think mass effect and its characters are fantastic, it wont appear to have so much character development because its not linear, you have choices. Besides that the story is still one of the best ive seen, with side quests actually some being awsome.

I highly doubt that, the amount of different scenerios with different characters, choices all make for compelling replay, not only that but custimization and different classes. Im sorry but this goes back to your arguement that like bioshock even with different endings it doesnt have that much incentive to replay again. Mass effect does and i cant believe you argue this. Im also at 30 hours and havent beat it (the you know who just attacked the cidital) so 15-20 hours is just doing main quest.

I dont think its the best at anything but voice acting i agree with you, but its still one of the top games in each of its genres including the worse framerate issues.......

Exactly, but still calling mass effect dirt? Comon really?

Im quite normal thank you

I havent done every quest, ive just began to dwell into the world known as mass effect. I havent read any of the codex (actually a few). Really if you dont want to replay this game over others then something is wrong with you.

Gameplay is quite fun if you mess around with it. Nothing much more fun then sending husks everywhere with throw, or using singularity to group them up then tossing a grenade in there and wtf evaporating them.

Really this game has tons more replay then any rpg ive played. Only games you will most likely play more are games with multiplayer or games that offer so much danm content its not even funny (im looking at you ff 12 even if your story sucked monkey balls you were worth the purchase)

Most of the posts from people who've played it mention that they're going to replay it again.  Also a lot of RPG players seem to be completists so it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of them did indeed replay it to see how things play out differently.

He's right, EA does own the rights to it and the name (do trademark search on gov website for Mass Effect). But the likelihood of it actually happening is slim to none.

How ever much it would be great i highly doubt that MassEffect will go to the PS3 maybe MassEffect 2 and 3 but MS has probably already set asside funds to buy the exclusivity of those games anyway. This is just like the Bioshock rumours and the MGS4 and the FFXIII rumours it will never happen so just live with what you have.

End of 2014 Hardware Predictions (03/03/14)

PlayStation 4: 12-15million

Xbox One: 7-10 million

Wii U: 8-9 million (Changed 01/04/2014 from 7-9 --> 8-9 million)

That's not how these things work. MS had a deal with Bioware where they would help or entirely cover the development in exchange for exclusive rights to the game via publishing it themselves. Since they financed and and published the game themselves, they have the sole right to sell Mass Effect 1 the game. Now, any other thing relating to Mass Effect not covered by any other previous agreements Bioware had is fair game. Mass Effect 2 and 3 and the comics, all fair game. But while they own the licence of the Mass Effect IP, they do not have the right to distribute Mass Effect 1. Even after an acquisition like this, EA is still obligated to honor any contracts signed by Bioware. So unless MS entered into a new deal with EA following the buyout, it's MS's game to sell and profit from (minus any amount that was supposed to go to Bioware).

Which leads me to think of a couple of scenarios:

1) Bioware will make future Mass Effect titles, and will be at least PC/PS3/360 multiplat, if not more spinoffs for Wii/DS/whatever.

2) MS will secure the Mass Effect series as an exclusive for the PC/360. Moneyhats are the key here.

3) After a certain time, probably a few months to a year before Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect will be released on the PC/PS3 due to a new agreement between MS and EA where MS will relinquish their publishing rights to the first Mass Effect. It'll raise awareness for the first game on other platforms so the sequel will sell better. Will probably involve EA giving MS something, or maybe MS just thinks being in the good graces of the biggest third party supporter for their platform is better business than holding onto a game whose sequel is going multiplatform no matter what.

I think the time exclusive scenario is the most likely one to be honest. MS doesn't want to piss off EA, in fact they probably want to keep them very happy. On the flip side, EA doesn't want to piss off MS either, since the 360 now makes EA the most money if I'm not mistaken (or was PS2 still the top earner?). So, they'll come to an amicable and mutually beneficial arrangement. I think Mass Effect will find it's way to the PS3 before 2009 to be honest.
