Forums - Microsoft - If Wii Music were a Kinect game...

Several things:

* People thought that Just Dance was a shovelware title, thrown together to make a buck.  Dance Central is by Harmonix.

* Dance Central involves tracking one's entire body, with actualy dance moves.  Just Dance tracks where your hands are moving and not really the rest of your body.

* Just Dance looks like it has very low production costs, and the fact it is likely selling more than Alan Wake, has upset a number of people here.  People forget doing something people want is more important that "high quality".

Flat out, I do make fun of people bashing Just Dance, because if people want to have fun with it, that is cool, even if people here don't like it.

Yea, the difference between Dance Central and...Kinect Music is that Dance Central uses Kinect to its advantage to make a more realistic experience. I can say it now that the best Kinect games will be the innovative ones such as Just Dance and Kinect Adventures and not the ones that "Use you empty hands as a steering wheel!!!" "Use your empty hands as a Battle Rifle!!!" etc etc. Holding a Wiimote as a rifle is still more realistic than holding nothing.

Around the Network

My son loves just dance, epecially Eye of the Tiger. I myself am far to lazy for that type of game, even though you don't have to stand up to play it.

I would love to see this game revealed, if only to watch how the gaming sites and press react to this. I'm betting they'd react extremely positive and claim it as the next coming of Jesus.

Wii Music on the other hand.... was on the Wii.

Worst thing is, it's probably true. All critics say Just Dance is just terrible, but Dance Central is getting nominated for "best new game" and "game of the show" for E3......

You're still going through the same actions though. You think Wii Fit accurately tracks every move you make? No, but people are still going to do what's on screen, you just probably won't get penalized for not doing everything exactly. This is obviously another comparison to another Kinect game: Your Shape. Sure, it has actual tracking, but the people who are being targeted for these games...it's all the same to them, and these critics should know that

The Wiimote does several things, besides tracking motion:

* It has a speaker, and can provide sound feedback.

* It vibrates, so it is able to give physical feedback.

I also believe it is designed to get people into normal videogames, by acting as a controller so one can do action games and so on.  Kinect isn't a gateway into anywhere.  It expands gaming in new directions though.

I agree with you on that. Especially since we haven't really seen any 'core' titles that use Kinect, except Forza. 360 is taking a very separate path to core and casual.

PS Move should give the core players an entry since Move is 'awesome' and Wii is not. Personally I have not seen anything Move can do that Wii can not. Developers are not willing to actually try on the Wii. They make experimental titles that would fail on any platform and then blame it on the Wii.

I think that Kinect will capture the casuals, Move will capture the cores, and Wii will continue to perform well based on its entry costs being extremely lower than the other two (360 Kinect, PS3 Move), not to mention Nintendo games.
