Lotsa people wondering about cross compatibility so I thought I might start a FAQ thread based on what I know. Having briefly played the Atlus version, and now owning the Black Phantom limted edition Namco version (thank you Namco).
Can game saves from the Atlus version be played on the Namco version: No
Is there one trophy list between the versions, or 2? Each version has its own trophy list. Bit of a bummer if you're nearly at plantinum on the Atlus version. But look at it this way, how often do you get to platinum a game twice?
Do you play in the same online community? No. I know this because the messages I left in the Atlus game do not appear in the Namco game.
In short, to all intents and purposes the 2 versions might as well be considered to be entirely different games.
I am sooo loving this game. Of the 2009 GOTY games I've only played UC2 and Demon's Souls. Even this early in I am pretty sure I'm going to go with Gamespot's GOTY choice over the vast majority of other GOTY awards. When Gamespot went against the grain and gave their GOTY to Demon's Souls they went up by a lot in my estimation. But even so I can see plenty of room for improvement, so a Demon's Souls 2 could be truly amazing, as long as it keeps to the spirit of the original.
