Kensuke Tanabe:

"I know people appreciated them in the past games, so we want to ensure everybody that we are currently working on how we could add them to the gameplay of this new game. M. Miyamoto wanted us to show which animal could help during the adventure, but we felt it would be funnier to discover them on the right time."

He added then:

"There won't be any underwater phases in the game. We felt those phases weren"t able to suit the gameplay of this Donkey Kong game."

Seems a bye-bye to Enguarde.

Amaizing.  I always liked the animal budies in the DKC games.  Just make sure rhino is there and we are good.

The game gets released in a few months and their still implimenting animal buddies. I was really hoping they'd be implemented from the beginning. I really liked Jungle Beats animal buddies as well. I'm buying DKC:R regardless but if their is little to no animal buddies (Like Yoshi in NSMBW) or none at all I will be very dissapointed.

I also really liked the water levels in all the DK games, so them being gone their better still be animal buddies!

Music in water levels was out of this world!

I just wish they recover those tracks and put them in the game somehow.
