My thoughts is that I don't care about the game enough to care either way. lol
I'm twenty-something hours in. It's an okay game, even with the shortcomings I had a good time playing it (so far).
I certainly wouldn't put it on the top of my list, but then as far as RE5 is concerned the Resident Evil series is over for me (meaning I probably won't play their next game).
At least XIII still feels like an RPG, whereas in RE5 the survival horror goes out the window and it becomes a standard (and boring) action/shooter game (although I guess that if linearity != RPG then XIII failed hard too, but I don't consider it to be the case since it's not a unique feature and there are plenty of JRPGs that are painfully linear).
Survival horror went out the window with RE4. Thankfully, RE's new direction is far superior.
RE5's only real shortcoming (besides lack of novelty) is the partner system, which is handicapped by flat out retarded AI. Thankfully though, this is rectified if you have just one friend. You have at least one friend, right?

I thought it's only shortcoming was the industrial setting. I wish it had more indoor enviroments also. lol
The guy produced LP2 too so calling it far superior, not so sure (that or I should blame Oguro for it). Don't see how that makes Capcom>Square either.

Since when does Kobayashi = Capcom? And since when does LP2 have any bearing on RE4/5 kicking the shit out of the horrible tank controlled fossils the series was a decade ago?
For Capcom > Square, I'd say look at Monster Hunter 3, Street Fighter IV, Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, Apollo Justice, Dead Rising, Zack & Wiki, Ultimate GnG, Megaman 9-10 or any of the other great games they've developed this generation. The future also looks bright with Okamiden, Ghost Trick, MVC3 and Basara 3 in the wings.
Square has what... DS Final Fantasy remakes? Crisis Core? Crystal Chronicles stuff? Some additional FF spinoff or other (Dissidia, 4HOL, Tactics A-2, etc, etc)? I feel like I'm about the only person who actually liked The Last Remnant (in Kawazu we trust <3)...
