Forums - Gaming - SE still struggling to agree with MS on FFXIV due to Live it seems

I'm not so sure Microsoft's policy for charging for DLC has much to do with achievements in particular.  Back when Crash Course was announced for L4D1, the guys at Valve made some comments that implied charging is just the way things go with MS:

In a recent interview, Valve’s Chet Faliszek revealed that Microsoft is behind the 560 Microsoft Point ($7) price tag on the “Crash course” Left 4 Dead DLC on the Xbox 360. Faliszek stated, “We own our platform, Steam. Microsoft owns their platform. They wanted to make sure there’s an economy of value there.”

[...]

Valve president Gabe Newell addressed this issue last year stating, “On the consoles, they want us to charge money for [DLC], because that’s in their model, and our model is very much more to grow the community by giving out free updates. That’s harder for us.”

As for Red Dead Redemption, I think their hand may have been forced in that situation.  It'd be a PR blunder if the DLC for the biggest ps3/360 release thus far this year was offered free on PSN but not XBL.

Well I`m not a fan of MMO's, however I do feel for 360-only owners who want to play this game. Hopefully it gets sorted out sooner rather than later. :)

It was just likely that an additional fee could have been a problem for games that already require a pay subscription. But forcing publishers to charge money for DLCs that they give for free on other platforms is just committing suicide for greed. If even Gabe Newell, that always was pro MS, isn't happy, this should suggest MS something...

this could mean more trafic on PSN. i don't lnow what MS problem is.

You don't know if SE is the one being unreasonable. MS has set up a great online service and sometimes developers bitch about it because of financial reasons.

Its also gonna be on the PC and we all know that's where the majority of MMO fans are.

agreed. i didn't say SE was being unreasonable. i beleive MS is though.

Definitive proof that Capcom >>>> Square. <3 <3

Can't really say for sure who is the one being greedy here. But that IMO is pointing to Microsoft.

Doesn't want joint servers. Wants people to pay for the online service to play the game. and wants a cut of SEs profit money. That's a little messed up.

M$ is ....all about money first...games, gamers ... whatever!

Will the PS3 be the first and most successful multi-million selling piracy & hack-free console of all time?

MS would be stupid to pass up a game of this calibur......or maybe they want more exclusive support from square before they let them??? Hopefully whatever it is it gets resolved!!!!!!!!

This is true, they need to just get over their stupid policy and let it release simulationusly with the other versions.

After RE5 I can't possibly agree with that.
