Forums - Gaming - SE still struggling to agree with MS on FFXIV due to Live it seems

Found this interesting:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/closed-xbox-live-blocked-ffxiv

Seems SE either still haven't managed to find agreement with MS or want to put some pressure on by getting some attention in the marketplace.

I know MS is very focused on it's approach with Live, but after all their efforts to get franchises they deemed Playstation centric on 360 I'm surprised they haven't given SE some special treatment to secure the title.

Do you think MS see a FF MMO as less important that a regular SP FF like FFXIII?  Or is there any indication SE is being unreasonable with their demands?

Seems odd for the franchise to go from multi back to console exclusive at this juncture.

If PS3 sees good traction with MMOs (not sure it will) when they finally launch I wonder whether MS will review it's position?  With Activision obviously keen on more of a subscription model could MS come under pressure to open Live up more and pass control back to the developers?

Thoughts everyone?

p.s. can we have no gloating, etc. or teasing but simply a discussion on what this might mean for PSN / Live with regard to MMOs?

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

this could mean more trafic on PSN. i don't lnow what MS problem is.

The problem i had with ff11 was paying for xbox live and ff11.

2 subscription is a little too much.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

well I guess that's that.

Well you don't need to have a Gold account to play FFXI.

Live is also the cheaper of the two especially if you get the year subscription.

You don't know if SE is the one being unreasonable. MS has set up a great online service and sometimes developers bitch about it because of financial reasons.

Its also gonna be on the PC and we all know that's where the majority of MMO fans are.

I prefer that ms retains control of live like they have, as I see it as one of the reasons it is able to surpass other online services. It is easier for them to make changes and upgrades when they only have to think of how it benifits/effects live and not other services. Having their hands tied by other companies would suck. I also do not see a problem with them still requiring people to pay for gold as they will still be getting access to other live features I would assume such as cross game chat and the unified freinds list.

I can understand people having to pay for Live on the 360. But MSFT needs to get past this cross platform issue. This is a win-win for MSFT and SE. JUST DO IT MSFT!!

this

Um... you can play FF11 Online with just a silver membership. Not seeing with the issue is here unless MS all of a sudden wants gold membership to play the new FF online. Either way could care less since It's a MMORPG, and right now the new KOTOR MMORPG is the only game that has a chance against WOW.

It's just that simple.
