Oh, how I lament the Squaresoft of old... I'm playing Mystic Quest on my Game Boy right now... So many memories...

Squaresoft had a lot of bad games. Mystic Quest (Snes) being one of them, Ergheiz (the console version was an extremely gimped in comparison to the Arcade), The Bouncer and Unlimited Saga are amongst some of the collection of bad Square games.

And S-E has good games too, just not in the same quantity and quality as Square and Enix had before the merge.

That's true, Squaresoft sure was not oblivious to bad games. Their games though catered more to the Japanese market and thus, me. SE nowadays tries too much to blend into Western development companies, thus all the action scenes, cut scenes, multiplayer, episodic content, supporting 360, etc.

Yup, I agree completely. Thankfully, for the handheld part, they have kept their original structure and have not deviated from their Japanese catered spirit. That's why I still appreciate them a lot, not only have they released amazing games for DS/PSP, they still have some pretty darn good ones in the future

Time to move on. Multiplayer is going to be pretty standard in the future. This is what you all wanted. You can't expect consoles to have robust online, but maintain single player experiences. SP games rule on non online systems. Once online becomes a standard it's only natural evolution progress for the games to incorporate online.

Multiplayer is a psychological factor. With our ever massive growing population we tend to isolate ourselves from people who are right next to us. However humans need socilization. Facebook, forums and other social sites provide some outlet for this requirement of human connectivity. It is only natural that games will then continue to adopt this human required psychology.

So instead of thinking how bad games are going to be. Instead think that games are going to change and while there will be a decade of shitty games for SE. They will eventually provide epic experiences that feel like SP experiences but you will be able to share.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Meh, just meh.

I like the idea a lot.

Imagine FFXIII in co-op!

Final Fantasy IV - VI and IX all had multi-player. It was actually kind of cool honestly. It didn't work terribly well, but it was nice for having a friend over. In the age of action RPGs I would very much prefer to have multi-player control as I loathe nothing as much as an AI controlled partner. Do it well and I bet no one would even notice. Hell, I bet most people didn't know there are multiple 2 player Final Fantasy games. Life is funny that way.

Leader boards and the like would just be stupid though. Single player games don't all need dick measuring contests. I can ignore them easily enough so it isn't a huge deal, but I still don't like them.

So I just found out the all new SE games will have the ability of multiplayer, does anyone think this is a good idea? I personally think that this may hurt SE. One reason I like playing FF because it's single player and I can move at my own pace, no invites or people asking for help when I don't want to be bothered but guess all that will change now. I personally think this is stupid, if it ain't broke don't fix it. What do you guys think?

I think 99% of SE games are outdated and thus broken, so moving towards fixing them is good.

what i dont' get is people like you that want every game to be so called "FIXED"

I play a multitude of games and I don't want them all the same.  I like some rpg's that are like fall out, some that are like final fantasy's more real time, some that are like tales real time, some that are like basic turn based rpg, some that are ect....

that is just for rpg's.  I don't want everything to be so called "FIXED" if that just means all rpg's play exactly the same.  That is boring.

Well.. I hope that Final Fantasy Tactics and Secret of Mana for the iPhone supports multiplayer over Wifi and 3G.. that would be awesome..

Mystic Quest dosent count, it was made by Square of America, not of JP origin. Sqauresoft rocked: Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Parasite Eve and of course the Yatsumi Matsuno masterpiece that was Vagrant Story.i probabily missed a few...

A lot of people seem to blaming Wada, and i agree to an extent, but he wouldnt be forced to make these decisions if FF13 was more successful. and whether or not people think it was good or not, imo it was not what it couldve been. if Kitase and Toriyama didnt fuck up, (which they did), then Wada wouldnt be forced into making decisions to appeal to the western auidence.

I think this is only a great idea if they are talking about co-op RPGs.  Then its a good idea,  anything else would be bad
