Forums - Sony - David Jaffe Responds About Attacks On Twisted Metal's Visuals

Regarding the attacks on our visuals, I have this to say:

1) We deliver an anti-aliased, 720p, HDR experience. We support 1080p
output (with noticeable improvement to UI elements). We're not "sub HD"
by any stretch of the imagination.
2) We're still pre-alpha which means we aren't even done writing
graphics code let alone tuning the art content to go with it.
3) Many textures and shaders are pre-alpha quality and will be improved.
4) Most screenshots and video on the web were taken from video cameras
rather than direct screen capture. They don't represent even our
current quality level.
5) We don't want to drop our frame rate even though we have a megaton of
action on the screen with dynamic physics and lighting (and eventually
four player splitscreen!)
6) Our levels are large with very long draw distances. Everything you
see is an interactive world, not simply static geometry. A lot of it is
destructible.
and finally,
7) We haven't even shown our best stuff yet. If anything, we've only
shown our oldest stuff, and our artists keeping discovering new ways to
improve visual quality.

SO- with all that said- I think players are in for a treat all around, visual included. Our team is super talented and crazy hard workers. It's only going to get better from here!

quite frankly, i think jaffe is a tool and better off ignored.  he just needs to sit there, be quiet, and make his games.   people like his games, for whatever reason, but all his comments are just annoying.   like when he was talking about sony suing people over copying god of war when it wasnt even a very original game, or suing anyone that makes a racing game that has some aspect of combat in it.

people like his games because theyre fucking ace.

Of all of the stupid things he has said, his comments summed up in the OP are very well said and not "annoying" in anyway.

wow, I feel really sorry for the team. That they are so insecure about their work that they need to defend it. Often such retaliation so soon is a good sign that the developers are unsure of their own work.

Personally I though TM looked great. I didn't see sub HD graphics at all. They sure aren't confident of there own work are they.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Had he defended it in a snotty, rude or defensive way id agree with you. However, i believe clarifying a behind closed doors screening in todays modern age of instant youtube videos is hardly the definition of "insecure"

Had his tone been different id say youre spot on.

I concur, I like when a Dev actually talks about the game himself instead of staying passive and let the fanboys spread rumors.

Yeah, they have to be insecure or they have to be annoying. Or maybe they just care about their game and put some real passion into creating it rather than beeing milked cash cow. And Jaffe is one of the few western developers where there is a NAME behind the GAME.

I'm pleased with his feedback to the gaming community, as it shows that they care. Not like many other developers that doesn't give a toss about their games, as long as they get the cash. Yes I'm talking to you Blizzard, thanks for fucking up the Starcraft II.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

I wish we had an official twisted metal thread.

i don't care for textures or sub hd things... i just find the grey/dark style bland.
