Forums - Sales - Wii outpacing PS2 software sales!

Someone said every single PS2 game were classics? I don't believe these games are no hwere near quality: http://www.gamerankings.com/browse.html?site=ps2&cat=0&year=0&numrev=0&sort=1&letter=&search=

Personally, I find that metacritic/gamerankings are bad representation of game quality, in fact, I don't believe there's such thing as "game quality", but even judged by those faulty metrics Wii wins.

Wii has over 500 games rated in "yellow" and "green" on metacritic among over 1000 titles in game library, while PS2 got around 1500 such games among over 5000 titles avaliable. As I said, Wii wins, almost half of it's games could be considered bearable, while 70% of PS2 games are utter trash. Though I have no doubt that Wii will be closer to PS2 "games quality" at the end of it's cycle, like pretty much every successful console =)

So it's roughly 540m vs. 390m then. Take out 60m for bundled Wii Sports copies and remove 100m or so for games that were complete and utter trash and the real numbers put the PS2 ahead.

The OP is Nintendo PR spin as usual.

It is all about money. By the magical act of purchase, utter trash become beautiful money. Your argument for removing shovelware from the equation makes no sense.

I am pretty confident that most WII games are not good. Only games like mario, zelda and the other firts party games actually deserve such sales. PS2 games were of quality and that is something the WII can't replicate at the moment.

Is that a joke comment

that is an opinion not fact

reggie stated facts not opinions

The sw sales from the Wii have sony fans reaching for some preperation H for the massive anal bleeding

you can and can't blame Nintendo on this.

its their fault that they made no effort for piracy and no effort to up their tech

and its third parties fault that they didn't do anything special for the wii.

I'm tired of hearing people say that third parties don't try much for the wii. Monster Hunter Trii is an awesome game and so is No more heroes and I'm sure many other games as well. The problem is, the wii owners buy mostly Mario and Party games. What would you do if you were a developer? Try to make a great game and get poor sales or make yet another "party" game with little effort and get great sales?

Monster Hunter Tri outsold the PS2 Monster Hunters (by a big amount as well), so you can't really use MH3 as an example.

And before anyone uses Muramasa as an example, Odin Sphere didn't sell that much more (and the PS2 had a much higher userbase)

Probably the best excuse would be the fact that PS2 got worldwide release only 8-9 months later after it's japanese release, so it should get a handicap, and voila... that will put PS2 over Wii.

Please feel free to apply some preperation h

The launch aligned software sales being ahead of PS2 is in reference to the US market (and presumably NPD figures) only.

Also, Reggie's giving some pretty direct insight on Wii 2 here... expect a 3DS-like launch lineup...

"However, if you recall our Nintendo 3DS announcement yesterday, we were able to announce the lineup that we did yesterday because the third party developers felt the possibility of a particular platform and came ready to support it from the launch time.

So when the time comes for us to release a new platform on the home console side, the question becomes how do we convince and demonstrate to those third parties that the next platform is going to be a success? And if we are able to do that, then the third parties will come to the table with their content, and to that, we’ll be able to add our own first-party content.

I think when that time comes and we are able to garner that type of support from the third parties, coupled with our own software contents, then naturally, we will be able to create a situation where many software become available and various types of people start to participate. We will also be able to create a good cycle for that new platform, which encourages consumers to buy software. When we’re able to do that, then I believe some of the challenges that you pointed out will start to move in a positive direction."
