Forums - Microsoft - Current Kinect pricing is a marketing scheme!

I would have thought that when you pre-order a product you are entering into a contract and therefore that price is binding. Yeah sure, who is going to get upset if you got a pleasant surprise at the time of handover? There are issues with this. Very few may do this, but what happens if the pre-order is paid fully up front?

In Australia, we "layby" items all the time. It means you have fully paid for an item to get it at that price and then pick it up when it comes in or pick it up when both parties agree is a convenient time.

So, what I am saying is that with any pre-order, if monies are exchanged, you are binding the final price. It's a contract.

I pre-ordered from Amazon, and they give you the lowest price it posts between the time you preorder and when they ship it, even if it was on sale for like an hour at some point.  I've had several times when new games were charged for $10-12 less than what I thought I was buying them at by the time they charged my card.  Once they even credited me $10 a week later when it went on sale the day AFTER I received it.  And it was automatic - - didn't even have to request it.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Fair enough. That may be an Amazon policy but if this price is already on the MS site and everywhere else, there may be issues.

If they charge $150 in the states, they will charge over $200 here in Australia.

That is not acceptable.  I would be hard-pressed to purchase this for $150 Australian.

Understand something Microsoft.  I DO want this, but I CAN do without it.

Not really.  A lay-by is not a pre-order.  A lay-by often doesn't allow you to pick the item up, but rather holds it until you have incrimentaly paid if off.

But with pre-orders, you only have to put $10 down at EB, and I think $5 down at JB.

You can get that back too I think.  Basically, if there is a substantial price move, you can be sure they have to factor it in.  Indeed, EB for example offers a price match promise.  If the price is cheaper anywhere else on the day, you get the game for that price.

@Tommy: Pretty much what I was thinking. By the way I hope your new game is coming along nicely.

Tease.

I think MS wants to see how much it will sell at that price and if many people are willing to buy it at $150 then they will sell it for $150

Yeah I get that and usually fairness prevails due to most stores having such a policy, but if I pre-ordered a product at a store that store may have a policy that the price is locked in. Put it this way, it's not illegal for them to do that.I am not sure about the legalities of holding a deposit either.

All I am saying here is that every outlet has got Kinect at 150.00. Even the MS site. I find it highly unlikely that MS will do a surprise move by lowering that price at release. It's wishful thinking and I hope that I am proven wrong.

i reckon milo might be bundled, its just a feeling, you never know though, adventures seems the next likely option, are the games available for pre-order on ms site? Remember Duke Nukem (the latest one) you could get pre-orders for it.

I agree that that will be good, but I think that somehow MS will do it for U$ 99, I mean, Xbox 360 Kinect for U$ 399 or U$ 299 for the "Arcade" version. U$ 150 will be for the ones that already have the knect.

I dont know. MS sell a $100 wifi add on before so..
