Forums - Nintendo - Epic Mickey has around 275 people working on it

Okay, that's nuts.

Without the luxury of a $60 MSRP, this game is going to have to sell well over a million to really pay off.

On the other hand, it's novel to get a Wii game that they didn't cheap out on.

Ringo... It's a Mickey game on the Wii. It's going to sell (way) over a million :-p

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

This is going to have demo kiosks at every Disneyland/world the world over, its going to be advertised on ALL Disney/Buena Vista media outlets and its going to be critically recieved simply because of Spectors pedigree, it will be successful.

If theres one thing we know about the Wii, it sells media tie ins better than others, so i would hope Epic Mickey has a def. advantage because of the name and the built in Disney market.

Mario/Mickey cross over platformer impending.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Now I want a Lego Disney game, something like Lego Kingdom Hearts.

Sure Warner owns Traveller Tales now, but they can work someting out in like how they got the crossovers in Roger Rabbit.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Well, when Mickey has always been underrepresented in games, its about time he got the proper treatment he deserves!

Well, he said "while active production of art assets and other visual elements get outsourced to various studios around the world". When someone says around the world, I believe it means at least some of the outsourcing was done in cheaper labor countries.

I imagine this game selling roughly 2 million worldwide.

However, this game has one big obsticle standing in it's way.  Let's say this game get's a 12 PEGI rating, which is a possibility, it would alienate some o the typical Mickey Mouse fanbase by being rated too high for them, but at the same time might not appeal to the often ignorant older audience, who might not purchase the game because it features Mickey Mouse who is apparently 'for babies'.

Or perhaps I'm looking into it too deeply...

I don't think so, it looks dark and all, but the content looks situable for an E rated game

sounds like a big budget wii game but considering it's mickey i don't see this doing poor enough in sales to not at least break even.  a million units feels pretty much a lock to me and i wouldn't be surprised to see the 2-3M mark met either.

I guess it better.

What I find frustrating is that Nintendo tried to teach everybody with the Wii that high production values are nowhere near as important as a polished and fun experience. That it's more important to hire good game designers than armies of graphic designers, and more important to iron out bugs in existing features than to pile on new features.

Nobody seems to have taken the lesson to heart. They just keep piling more staff onto projects, bloating budgets and murdering margins.

Despite all my whining, I do think Epic Mickey will look and play incredibly well, and it will probably perform well in the market.
