Forums - Gaming - Square Enix currently has no plans for Final Fantasy XIV on 360

I don't see how "no change in plans" is news.

In the end, it's up to Microsoft and their Live policy to allow FFXIV on 360.  On the other side of the fence, Sony has actively supported FFXIV on their platform and is even going so far as to allow Valve to integrate Steamworks into PSN for all of their future titles.  PSN's more open structure certainly has its advantages.

Well it can be called news in a way. It is letting everyone know that they still haven't got anything solidifed with the Xbox version yet.

Certainly does - I can't believe that Microsoft would let this opportunity slip out of their hands. I can't imagine Microsoft bowing to meet Square's demands for a late port now, especially in a genre that sells comparatively worse on their system.

I'm trying to understand what it is that's prohibiting these services and makes Live a 'closed' platform? What are the benefits for Microsoft?

Or maybe the universe would just explode if PSN and XBL players could get together...

It'd be like Christmas Eve 1914.

It will be ported eventually. But MSFT is being really stingy with cross-platform servers. They don't like that for some reason. Also SE doesn't want their members to HAVE to have Xbox Gold to play XIV, but MSFT will not allow that either.

It will come in time.

Glad to hear there will be a huge story focus. That makes me happy.

Hopefully they work out a deal like Capcom did for MoHun Frontier, and just do a Gold MMO subscription deal.  I still don't understand why FFXI got a free pass but nothing since has? :/

Pretty sure a few days ago Square said that they're still in discussion with MS about FF XIV and now they say they have no current plans? If they had no current plans to port it to the X360 then why should they be discussing this with MS? They obvioulsy have plans and that is why they're still in discussion.

Square wants it on 360, but Microsoft apparently won't let them on 360 without certain stipulations regarding monthly fees, XBL Gold, etc.

Until those issues are resolved (as they may never be), Square is currently only developing the game for PC and PS3.

Well it's taking a bloody long time to come to a decision and discussion man. They've been probably discussing for over a year now and still haven't come down to a final decision.

And wasn't FF XI on X360? So what's so different about this situation? Or did FF XI not have Cross Platform gaming?

I'm not sure how FFXI got a free pass.  Maybe because the 360 was young and Microsoft was desparate for any games they could get, especially something with Final Fantasy in the title.

Whatever problem is plaguing FFXIV also affected the other MMOs that were supposed to eventually make it to 360, like Age of Conan and Champions Online.  Not a single one saw the light of day in the end.

Yeah probably. It came out like 2005/2006 sometime then but that didn't take off.

And yeah I heard Champions Online X360 version got canned and just released on PC only.

Well I guess Gabe Newell saying the PS3 is the most open console is true them :D! Look at all the MMOs coming to the PS3!
