Forums - Sony - PS3 Vents

I dont understand how the ps3 vents work. I have the MGS4 d0gb version. The vents under usb ports let out cool air. The vents in the back let out hot air. The hottest part of the ps3 is under the disc drive. It is actually quite a contrast becaus the the meorry card slot side gets pretty cold but the side under the disk drive get hot. And for some reason my PS3 is still kind of loud. Can someone explain how these vents work?

Around the Network

i have a 60gb and it would suck air from all vents except the ones on the top when standing it up

yours could be gettin loud b/c your thermal paste is drying out causing the fan to run faster

i think its time you open it up and clean all the dust out at least

from my understanding, all vents suck in cool air (not blowing it out) and  the  back vents (when lying down) blow out the hot air so that's the most important vent that needs to have room.

as for the disk drive, i think that's supposed to be the hottest part no?

and why are you saying it's still loud? you cleaned it out? or has it always been loud? or  is it louder than usual? anyway, i'm no expert about opening it up and cleaning up the guts, i typically pass a vaccuum by the vents every once in a while.

its hot under the disc drive because the motherboard is under it and the cpu die is right there in between the heatsinks

its a retarded design actually. Sony has monkeys working over there

And obviously, you can do better.
