Forums - Gaming - Tales Studio Is Not Doing So Well

That's really unfortunate, though really... you don't release ToV PS3 when the time is right IE when the sales of the PS3 were going up and up last holiday and so were software sales.  Then there's the rumor Graces won't hit stateside... like really if you're not planning on selling your games why make them -_-

It just seems very counter intuitive how they're running things right now.  Hopefully they get the act together and start localizing games like they should (seriously you already have most of the work DONE for the PS3 ToV)

I actually wouldn't mind seeing them (and the Tales IP) sold off to Square Enix... though I wonder how it might effect their relationship with tri-Ace?  Is there still bad blood there?  Enix was originally bidding with Namco for "Tale Phantasia" back in the early 1990s iirc.

If Namco just closes Tales Studio down, I imagine they'll just take key staff internal and continue making (fewer) Tales games, which also might not be a bad thing.

I'd rather see them sold off to Atlus...that means every game is localized. I wish only Team Symphonia and Team Destiny would make games since everything else is filler and not up to standard...

To be honest, I'd rather not see Atlus assume the risk or expense.  I like Atlus too much (both for their own games and Atlus USA's choice pickups).

The only parties I can really see being both able and interested in buying Tales Studio would be Square Enix, Nintendo or Ubisoft. :/

Atlus makes profit really easily on niche games. IMO Tales games could look like Persona graphically and it'd be fine.

For some reason I wouldn't feel comfortable with SE. Nintndo would be nice ONLY if they localize at least Team Symphonia and Destiny titles.

Eh, Megaten games have far, far lower production values (and thus likely far, far lower budgets) than mainline Tales though.  Ditto for other Atlus staples Etrian Odyssey, Growlanser, Trauma or Sting's games... even something like Tales of Hearts seems like it was probably a more costly venture than all Atlus R&D1's DS games combined so far.  That's the problem, Tales games these days have AAA budgets but B grade sales in Japan, and the franchise has been mismanaged into oblivion elsewhere.

Honestly I think the best thing going forward would be to reorganize the studio into one core team, and maybe within Namco even.  Let them work on one high profile Tales at a time, and get it out every 2 years or so.   A full 3D Tales of Phantasia remake might be a good start (as a sort of "series reset").  Maybe for 3DS too, hit the ground running for next gen and really consolidate the Tales base on one platform for the future.

Well that's what I mean...Tales games don't necessarily need AAA budgets. The only thing that would really take a hit would probably just be graphics and anime cutscenes...unless making world maps takes a whole lot of money lol.

What would be best if they only got a Tales game out every 2 years like you said though.

I guess... but honestly, I'd still rather see Tales on par with Vesperia, Graces and Hearts than have them reduced down to Keroro RPG levels.  I just don't think Atlus is big enough to really afford to buy or run Tales Studio, and worse I could easily see Tales Studio dragging them down with them. :/

If they're sold, it'll likely have to be to one of the "major" publishers.  And again, I can really only see Nintendo, Square Enix or (plz no!) Ubisoft coming to the table. :/

This is good. If a poor business closes down then another more profitable one can take its place, survival of the fittest.

Tease.

TOG, TOV ps3, 3 ds Tales, and 2 psp tales didn't came in the west. Holy shit what are they expecting ? Seven games release for only one market, this is simply stupide.

I don't know who to blame, tales studio or Namco but for sure, one of them need to revise its copy !

My wife will be sad, even though she only loves Phantasia and Symphonia.

I want Nintendo to buy them.

Tales vs Nintendo.

*drools*

Tales game with Monolith Soft caliber story.

*drools*

I do NOT want them to fall into the hands of Square-Enix! They would torment them and use them in evil experiments. They would turn Tales into...an FPS!

*faints*

I cannot say that i am too surprised by this. I was never too fond of the way they handle the series and something like this was bound to happen eventually. Honestly i'm not sure what the best course of action for these guys would be. I still fully believe it was a mistake to not bother releasing the definitive Vesperia, Graces and the DS games outside of their homeland.

I hope Nintendo buy the rights to the franchise. I imagine if that was the case they'd be a little more sensible with the way the series would be handled. Though i can't help but feel they would treat it a lot like Fire Emblem is treated nowadays.

Definitely Namco. Namco executives are really incompetent...

The worst part is Scamco had no problem bringing over surefire bombs like Magna Carta 2 or Eternal Sonata PS3.  Ugh.

I don't understand. Exactly who thought it would be a grand idea to release this game everywhere when i daresay every Tales game that missed the boat to the western world would have surely performed far more admirably. Even Europe got this game in a timely manner, but it took us a year to get Tales of Symphonia 2? Really? Really!?

I couldn't even find this game when it was released here in the UK. Actually, i am still having trouble finding Tales of Symphonia 2. Namco really confuse me with their decisions more times then i understand their plans. They're worse than Square-Enix.
